Concept Projects Group is seeking a proactive and motivated Technical Operative to join its Mechanical Engineering team—a hands-on, site-embedded role supporting key operations across industrial clients across the Wirral and wider North West.

The Technical Operative will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of plant, equipment, and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include assisting with materials and tools, preparing components, general mechanical repairs, basic troubleshooting (under supervision), and maintaining clean/safe work environments.

This role is ideal for those with a keen interest in mechanical engineering, delight in practical site-based work, and aim to grow skillsets in a fast-paced engineering context.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Mechanical Engineers and skilled tradespeople on client sites
  • Support installation, maintenance, and repairs of plant, equipment, and mechanical systems
  • Handle and position materials, tools, equipment, and components efficiently
  • Prepare plant, tools, machinery, and components for installation/overhauls
  • Support repairs of motors, pumps, valves, and basic mechanical components
  • Assist with fitting, fabrication, mechanical tasks, and basic on-site troubleshooting
  • Operate/use fabrication equipment (e.g., cutting, welding, drilling, machine tools)
  • Strict adherence to health and safety—supervisors notified of hazards or defects
  • Maintain clean, tidy workspaces and inventory of tools/spares
  • Professional communication with client teams, managers, and colleagues

Requirements

Essential

  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and processes
  • Safe operation of hand and power tools
  • Apprenticeship/served time in engineering or proven commitment to development
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and clear communication
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to deadlines
  • Team player mindset and commitment to health & safety protocols
