Forming part of a dynamic shift team we have an exciting opportunity to join Severn Trent's Water Treatment Works, situated at Ogston in Derbyshire.
Your duties will include management of raw water sources, through plant processes, onsite sampling, and lab testing. Your role will be to produce drinking water to high quality standards for our customers in the most cost efficient and safe manner.
You will participate in a rotating shift pattern working a 24/7/365 shift rota. The shift rota is based off an annualized hours working arrangement and gives great work/life balance, and you will be rewarded with ample rest days and shift allowances in addition to your base salary. Participation in a standby rota will also be required.
In this role you will work alongside a dedicated maintenance team, process team and local management team using control platforms such as SCADA and PRISM to operate the works.
As well as working within a team environment there will be a requirement to also work on an individual basis (lone working) with the ability to dynamically problem solve.
Some Of Your Key Accountabilities Will Include
- Own site performance, including but not exclusively limited to; Power efficiency, water quality, chemical optimisation, and asset availability.
- Monitor complex treatment processes using a purpose-built SCADA system.
- Optimise treatment processes to match customer demands, water quality changes and communicate and escalate.
- Ensure chemical stocks are proactively managed to ensure adequate supplies are stored onsite to meet production needs.
- Proactively review water quality trends and asset performance and take action to prevent failure.
- Complete on-site testing to provide assurance of the treatment process.

This role comes with a base salary of £35,074.99 with an additional £13,000 per year in shift allowances.
WHAT WE'ER LOOKING FOR
Having experience in Working in a mechanical / electrical environment would be advantageous and working with chemical processes would be beneficial.
We are looking for positive, hardworking individuals that want to get stuck in and don’t shy away from a challenge. Character is equally important as having the right skill set, so if you have a strong work ethic, curious mindset and are willing to learn then this could be the career for you.
A full valid UK driving licence is required for the role.
Depending on experience, the successful candidate will be required to complete and achieve either; a technical skills bootcamp or Level 2 Water Process Operator Apprenticeship, which are delivered internally by our Academy.
To be successful in the role, it is expected that you will have…
- Water Treatment Process Knowledge/Experience.
- Experience of operating distribution systems if role requires.
- Shift work experience.
- Commitment to Health and Safety.
- Maintenance knowledge/experience.
- Process experience if not specifically in Water Treatment.
- Experience of writing and following systems of work.
- HMI / SCADA systems and ability to interpret data.
You will also be expected to have excellent organisation skills and be efficient and capable of completing several tasks at once whilst working well under pressure.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
This role has a clear, structured development path from Foundation to Skilled and Expert. Salary starts at £35,074.99, rising to £38,767.08 with qualifications and experience, supported through formal training and assessment.
