Role

A growing, independent plumbing and heating business based in Dorset, in partnership with Climate17, is seeking an experienced and ambitious Heat Pump Professional to join as a Technical Partner.

The objective of this role is to lead and develop the company’s Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) division as the market for low-carbon heating continues to expand. The opportunity is ideal for a commercially minded technical expert who can collaborate with the Managing Director to shape the business’s future, establish a successful renewable heating department, and contribute significantly to the company’s long-term growth.


Responsibilities

As Technical Partner, full responsibility for heat pump projects lies with you, covering all phases from initial customer enquiry to design, installation oversight, commissioning, compliance, and aftercare.

Key Work Areas

  • Ensure technical excellence, adherence to MCS standards, and support in business development
  • Develop efficient processes and systems as the renewable heating division grows

Core Responsibilities

  • Generate new business opportunities by proactively seeking project leads alongside responding to and qualifying incoming enquiries.

  • Conduct customer consultations and explain proposed solutions clearly.

  • Perform site surveys for Air Source Heat Pump installations.

  • Undertake room-by-room heat loss calculations and system sizing.

  • Design efficient, compliant heating systems aligned with MCS and manufacturer standards.

  • Produce accurate and professional quotations and technical proposals.

  • Conduct air conditioning surveys and quotations (where experience permits).

  • Convert leads into confirmed projects with professional, knowledgeable customer advice.

  • Manage customers throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring high-quality communication and customer satisfaction.

  • Plan and coordinate installations from conception to completion.

  • Coordinate material ordering and supplier liaison for seamless project delivery.

  • Ensure work complies with MCS, Building Regulations, and manufacturer requirements.

  • Maintain accurate project records and technical documentation.

  • Collaborate closely with installation engineers and subcontractors.

  • Support installation activities where needed, particularly during the early stages of department growth.

  • Maintain quality control standards across projects.

  • Complete MCS documentation and warranty registrations.

  • Utilise company systems, including Spruce and related operational software.

Strategic Role

  • Work with the Managing Director to develop the renewable heating division.
  • Contribute to business strategy, systems, and operational improvements.
  • Support recruitment, mentoring, and development of future heat pump installation teams.
  • Identify ways to expand renewable services and increase market share.

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience in Air Source Heat Pump surveying, design, and installation.

  • Relevant plumbing/heating qualifications (such as NVQ Level 2/3 or City & Guilds).

  • MCS experience, with a strong understanding of current compliance requirements.

  • BPEC ASHP qualification (preferred) for design, installation, and maintenance.

  • Good commercial acumen (preferable).

  • Unvented G3 certification (optional).

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Solid knowledge of heat loss calculations and system design principles.
  • Excellent customer-facing skills, strong communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organisation and problem-solving abilities.

  • Air conditioning design or installation experience (where applicable).

  • Experience managing engineers, subcontractors, or installation teams.

Certifications & Licences

  • Full UK driving licence.

Location

  • Primary location: Bournemouth area (hybrid role)
  • Includes local and regional travel as needed.
