Technical Product Owner

Location: Northampton Work Mode: Hybrid Contract Role


About the Role

The Technical Product Owner will be responsible for delivering key workstreams and use cases within an EDP Cloud Migration programme. This role requires a strong blend of technical, business, and Agile leadership to ensure aligned delivery, effective backlog management, and business outcome realisation.


Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Delivery Leadership

  • Own delivery of assigned EDP Cloud Migration workstreams and use cases.
  • Define and communicate clear product objectives, delivery priorities, and success measures.
  • Translate business strategy and migration objectives into actionable delivery plans.
  • Drive delivery of business outcomes through Agile squads.
  • Balance business priorities, technical dependencies, delivery constraints, and risk.
  • Ensure alignment to programme roadmap and migration milestones.

Backlog Ownership & Prioritisation

  • Own and maintain the squad backlog.
  • Prioritise Epics, Features, and User Stories based on:
    • Business value
    • Technical dependencies
    • Programme objectives
  • Work with Technical Business Analysts to ensure requirements are well-defined and ready for delivery.
  • Ensure backlog items meet Definition of Ready standards.
  • Make informed prioritisation decisions across competing demands.
  • Support:
    • Quarterly planning
    • Sprint planning
    • Roadmap reviews
  • Manage backlog dependencies across multiple squads and workstreams.

Technical Delivery Management

  • Drive end-to-end delivery of migration activities across the squad.
  • Ensure business requirements are translated into deliverable technical outcomes.
  • Support planning and execution of:
    • Data Hydration initiatives
    • Data Product implementation
    • Cloud migration
    • Platform onboarding
    • Business adoption initiatives
  • Manage dependencies between engineering, architecture, and business teams.
  • Facilitate resolution of delivery risks, issues, and blockers.
  • Support release planning and production readiness activities.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build effective relationships across Business, Technology, and Control Functions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for delivery priorities and decisions.
  • Facilitate discussions between business stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Provide transparent reporting on:
    • Progress
    • Risks
    • Issues
    • Dependencies
  • Escalate delivery challenges and decision points as required.
  • Support governance forums and programme steering discussions.

Agile Leadership

  • Act as the Product Owner within Agile delivery teams.
  • Participate in and support:
    • Sprint Planning
    • Daily Stand-ups
    • Backlog Refinement
    • Sprint Reviews
    • Retrospectives
    • Programme Increment (PI) Planning sessions
  • Provide delivery direction and clarification to engineering teams.
  • Review and accept completed work against agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure delivery teams remain focused on priority business outcomes.

Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Ensure delivery activities adhere to governance and control requirements.
  • Manage delivery risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies.
  • Support compliance with:
    • Security standards
    • Architecture governance
    • Data privacy requirements
    • Regulatory obligations
    • Change governance processes
  • Ensure appropriate evidence and documentation is maintained.
  • Support governance approvals and control reviews.

Business Adoption & Benefits Realisation

  • Ensure delivered capabilities meet agreed business objectives.
  • Support implementation planning and business readiness activities.
  • Work with stakeholders to define and measure success criteria.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support transition of delivered capabilities into BAU (Business as Usual) support models.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential Experience

  • Experience operating as a:
    • Product Owner
    • Technical Product Owner
    • Delivery Lead
    • Senior Business Analyst within Agile environments.
  • Experience delivering:
    • Large-scale technology transformation
    • Cloud migration programmes
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Technical delivery lifecycles
    • Agile delivery frameworks
  • Experience managing:
    • Complex stakeholder groups
    • Business and technology functions
  • Proven track record in:
    • Backlog ownership
    • Prioritisation
    • Delivery management
  • Ability to:
    • Coordinate delivery across multiple technical teams and dependencies
  • Strong awareness of:
    • Risk management
    • Governance and control requirements

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on cloud migration programmes.
  • Knowledge of:
    • AWS
    • Enterprise Data Platform technologies
  • Experience in:
    • Data Product
    • Data Platform
    • Enterprise Data environments
  • Financial Services experience.
  • Knowledge of legacy platform migration initiatives:
    • Hadoop
    • Teradata
    • Oracle
    • SAS environments
  • Experience working within:
    • Data governance
    • Security
    • Regulatory environments
