Technical Project Manager – Aerospace

About the Role
Join ALTEN as a Technical Project Manager within the aerospace sector, where you will take ownership of engineering work to deliver high-impact programmes. This role spans new product development, in-service activities, and project close-outs—operating within agile, integrated project teams.
- Location: Luton
- On-site commitment: 3 days per week
- Security: Must be eligible for UK security clearance
- Experience required: Mid to senior (6–15 years)
Responsibilities
Key deliverables include:
- Take ownership of Engineering WorkPackages, ensuring alignment with Quality, Cost, and Schedule (QCD) objectives
- Support end-to-end delivery across development, in-service, and realisation programmes
- Coordinate day-to-day activities within the Integrated Project Team (IPT)
- Manage project risks, issues, and action items, with timely resolutions
- Track and escalate progress via project management tools and dashboards
- Foster collaboration between engineering, supply chain, and programme teams
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within project delivery

Requirements
Background & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
- Proven track record in technical project management in complex engineering environments (e.g. aerospace, defence, automotive)
- Demonstrated experience in portfolio programme management, work package ownership, or multi-disciplinary collaboration
Closely Strongly Scoped Skillset
- Expertise in QCD methodology, risk management, and project planning
- Hands-on experience with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, Trello, etc.)
- Ability to influence stakeholders and synchronise across roles within an IPT
- Experience in regulated safety-critical industries (e.g. aerospace is a plus)
Desirable
- Work in matrixed or portfolio environments
- Understanding of engineering lifecycle development phases
- Familiarity with engineering project management offices (PMO)
