Technical & Projects Manager
We are proud to be partnering with a well-established housing and support organisation operating across the West Midlands who are looking to appoint a permanent Technical & Projects Manager.
This will be a full-time position based in Birmingham, with hybrid working, three days in the office and two from home. The salary is circa £57,000 per annum.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in a project management delivery type role and ideally have management experience too.
Duties
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Conducting technical inspections, pre- and post-inspections, quality assurance checks and defect investigations across repairs, voids, refurbishment works and minor projects
- Overseeing contractor performance, workmanship, materials, compliance, health and safety requirements and value for money to ensure works meet specifications and contractual standards
- Preparing and reviewing scopes of work, specifications, schedules, technical reports, inspection records, defect logs and project documentation
- Providing technical support and advice on complex repairs, damp and mould cases, disrepair matters, insurance-related works, specialist surveys and building safety projects
- Coordinating refurbishment schemes and small works projects from inspection through to completion, liaising with residents, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders
- Maintaining accurate records, attending site meetings and project reviews, monitoring risks and quality issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory, contractual and organisational requirements
Experience required
- Background in a property-related technical role involving inspection, quality assessment, compliance monitoring, or project oversight
- Experience assessing occupied residential accommodation and identifying maintenance, repair, or construction-related issues
- Ability to review completed works and ensure delivery aligns with agreed standards, requirements, and expected outcomes
- Experience producing technical documentation, work requirements, condition assessments, and professional recommendations
- Understanding of day-to-day property maintenance activities, turnaround works, improvement programmes, and small-scale capital projects
- Knowledge of residential building components, construction methods, asset upkeep, and common causes of property deterioration
- Experience contributing to the resolution of complex property issues, including specialist investigations and customer-focused casework
- Awareness of statutory compliance obligations, safe working practices, and risk management principles within a property setting
- Ability to build effective working relationships with service providers, customers, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams

Skills, knowledge and expertise required
- Sound technical knowledge of residential buildings, maintenance requirements, property condition issues, and improvement works
- Confident in carrying out on-site assessments and constructively challenging standards, processes, or outcomes where required
- Ability to evaluate completed work against agreed requirements, quality expectations, and cost considerations
- Strong written communication skills, with experience producing clear records, assessments, recommendations, and technical documentation
- Capable of balancing multiple workstreams and deadlines within a fast-paced service environment
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally with customers, suppliers, external specialists, and internal stakeholders
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, with a practical approach to resolving complex issues
- Well-organised, methodical, and able to maintain a high level of accuracy in day-to-day work
- Able to work autonomously, exercising initiative while providing appropriate updates on progress, risks, and key developments

Working hours
- 37 hours per week
- Monday – Friday
- Three days in the office, two at home
