THE OPPORTUNITY – TECHNICAL SAFETY LEAD

The Technical Safety Lead role acts as the Technical Safety Technical Authority to safeguard, support, and assure the integrity and process safety of the Morecambe Hub assets. Leads the delivery of Technical Safety activities and plans, including those relating to end of asset life.

  • Location: Barrow-in-Furness
  • Duration: 2-year contract
  • Contract Type: PAYE
  • Day Rate: TBC - For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation.

Spirit Energy currently have a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based workers. 4 days must be worked in the office with compulsory days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The fourth day worked in-office (either Monday or Friday) is of the worker’s choosing but should be in keeping with what is most efficient and effective for their team. The office is open 5 days a week for full-time, in-office working if this is the contractor’s preference.

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…

In role, you will be required to:

  • Accountable for the delivery and quality of all technical safety work (internal & external) for Morecambe Hub assets, providing proactive guidance and support to all aspects of the business.
  • Provide expertise and support the implementation of the CMAPP, safety engineering philosophy, and standards.
  • Provide clear direction and assurance to compliance with statutory legislation in respect of Major Accident Hazard management including Safety Cases and COMAH reports.
  • Responsible for updating and supporting the Safety Case and COMAH report.
  • Ensure HAZOP, HAZID, HIRA, ENVID workshops are conducted and followed up in line with company standards and expectations.
  • Manages the technical safety resource and managed service provision to deliver business plans for technical safety activities.
  • Identify and lead engineering peer reviews to assure the integrity of technical safety engineering across Spirit Energy when requested.
  • Deliver the technical authority framework for Technical Safety.
  • Manage competence assurance for the Technical Safety discipline across Spirit Energy.
  • Actively manage contractors with involvement in the application of quality assurance and quality control: including reviewing calculations, philosophies, and designs.
  • Act as a Lead investigator using Kelvin TopSet investigation techniques to support business requirements.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

  • Degree qualified in an engineering or technology discipline
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Experience in event management and investigation training such as Kelvin TopSet
  • Demonstrate understanding of statutory legislation in respect of Major Accident Hazard management including Safety Cases and COMAH reports
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and applicable regulations both statutory and company specific.
  • Extensive experience in a Technical Safety Lead role
  • Experience in client/operator roles in the management of contractors
