Purpose of the Role

The Technical Sales Engineer serves as a critical bridge between technical and commercial aspects of the business, working closely with the Business Development Lead to support Logan’s hydrogen solutions across Scotland, Ireland, England, and Wales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored hydrogen solutions aligned with customer requirements.
  • Provide expert technical expertise to support sales processes while adhering to industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate internally and externally to translate customer needs into innovative, efficient project proposals.
  • Drive business growth and customer satisfaction through technical knowledge.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Business & Opportunity Development

  • Identify new business opportunities, including markets, clients, partnerships, and products/services.
  • Attend industry conferences and events to build relationships and stay updated on trends.
  • Act as the technical liaison between customers and the business, ensuring precise solutions.
  • Foster long-term relationships with key stakeholders through tailored engagement.

Proposal Development & Sales Support

  • Develop detailed technical proposals, presentations, and responses to RFI (Request for Information) and RFQ (Request for Quotation).
  • Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, design) to ensure comprehensive, accurate, and competitive technical inputs.
  • Present solutions that align product/system design with customer specifications.
  • Support the Bids & Proposals Engineer in coordinating bid collateral.

Technical Design & Collaboration

  • Create bespoke system layouts, schematics, and modular designs using established digital tools.
  • Investigate new market opportunities by analysing industry trends, customer needs, and emerging hydrogen technologies.

Customer Engagement & Technical Support

  • Engage directly with customers to understand challenges and propose solutions.
  • Drive sales by addressing technical queries during negotiations.
  • Present proposals and participate in technical evaluations, site visits, and project reviews.
  • Support lifecycle services, including after-market, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with internal design-engineering teams to refine system configurations.

Main Deliverables

  • Provide high-quality leads for Logan’s product and service sales.
  • Create well-documented, technical proposals and presentations tailored to customer needs.
  • Engage customers on operational challenges and propose engineering solutions.
  • Address technical objections in sales negotiations with data-driven insights.
  • Foster strong client relationships to ensure long-term engagement and confidence.
  • Execute site visits and technical evaluations (up to 30–50% travel).

Person Specification: Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Renewable Energy)
    • A related technical field
  • Preferred (not essential):
    • Certifications in technical sales, project management (e.g., PMP), or safety (e.g., NEBOSH).

Experience

  • 3–5 years in technical sales or applications engineering, ideally in:
    • Hydrogen biogas compressors
    • Industrial gases
    • Hydrogen systems
    • Regulatory compliance (compressed gases, hazardous environments for energy systems)
  • Experience in:
    • Ongoing technical sales support (e.g., maintenance, services, upgrades)
    • Customer engagement, proposal development, and sales team collaboration
    • Interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in:
    • Reading and analysing technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
    • CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales tools.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations: (e.g., DSEAR, ATEX, ISO standards).

  • Outstanding communication (interpersonal, technical).
  • Exceptional customer liaison abilities—ability to translate requirements into solutions.

Additional Considerations

  • Valid UK driving licence (essential due to travel commitments).
  • Multilingual ability is advantageous—environmental/STEM disciplines preferred.
