Technical Services Manager – Mod Hire Division
Location: Wolverhampton Road

This full-time role is based within the Mod Hire Division and reports to the Head of Technical Services.
About the Role
As the Technical Services Manager, you will provide technical leadership and manage a dedicated team of technicians, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality technical designs for adaptation and construction. You’ll drive optimisation in the design process, ensuring alignment with the highest standards of construction excellence. This involves coordinating technical design initiatives while providing critical support across multiple departments. Your strategic oversight will ensure the division’s solutions are innovative, compliant, and fit for purpose.
This role is pivotal in establishing robust technical standards, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and elevating our reputation for creativity and precision in modular construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Coordination: Lead material scheduling and procurement by collaborating with suppliers to align orders with project timelines, optimising efficiency.
- Technical Clarity: Act as the primary liaison between technical design and production departments, providing precise project details to enhance output quality.
- Expert Guidance: Deliver specialist technical support to Design and Estimating teams, ensuring accurate, competitive, and compliant project proposals.
- Team Management: Efficiently supervise the Technical Team, allocating workloads, implementing progress-monitoring systems, and ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Design Oversight: Oversee the entire technical design process, guaranteeing adherence to timelines, budgets, and industry standards.
- Drawing Approvals: Approve technical drawings to confirm full compliance with building regulations, industry standards, and internal design specifications.
- Planning Liaison: Collaborate closely with Planning Consultants to plan, manage, and monitor progress of planning applications while maintaining responsiveness.
- Regulatory Compliance: Proactively liaise with Approved Building Control bodies, clarifying technical aspects to facilitate smooth project progression.
- Weekly Reporting: Compile and present comprehensive weekly reports for production and construction teams, detailing progress, challenges, and actionable recommendations.
- Standardisation: Develop, maintain, and enhance the Standard Details Library to ensure consistent, high-quality design solutions.
- BIM Advancement: Partner with the Design Team to drive Revit adoption, create/Update Revit families, and establish best practices through training and mentorship.
- Personnel Leadership: Provide mentorship and supervision to the technical team, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing culture.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as technical advisor to internal/external stakeholders, resolving issues and ensuring open communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Representative Role: Represent technical teams in meetings, ensuring delivery aligns with programme and budgetary requirements.
- Commercial Innovation: Advise commercial teams by developing creative technical solutions that enhance project profitability and feasibility.
- Training Development: Design and lead internal training initiatives, honing team knowledge in regulatory compliance, industry best practices, and new construction technologies.

Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Qualification: HNC/HND or equivalent in a construction-related discipline.
- Software: Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Management Experience: Proven ability to lead design teams and deliver complex construction projects.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of technical design principles, RIBA Plan of Work, building regulations, and modern construction practices.
- Organisational Skills: Demonstrated capability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet consistent deadlines.
Desirable Requirements
- Qualification: Degree or equivalent in a construction-related subject.
- BIM/Revit: Proficiency in Revit, along with experience/championing BIM software, processes, and related technologies.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous, detail-oriented ethos, championing quality and avoiding oversights.
- Commercial Awareness: Familiarity with project budgets, cost implications, and financial reporting frameworks.
