Technical Services Manager

Technical Services Manager – Mechanical

Equans is seeking a Technical Services Manager – Mechanical to join our team in Wakefield on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37.5 hours per week. We offer a competitive salary, bonus, and comprehensive benefits package.


About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Technical Services Manager – TSM will lead the site-based technical service delivery team encompassing mechanical, electrical, and building fabric disciplines. This role includes participation in the 24-hour on-call rotation as part of local escalation procedures.


Key Responsibilities

As the Technical Services Manager, you will:

  • Lead and develop technical staff by providing clear guidance, driving performance improvements, and fostering strong working relationships
  • Exceed customer expectations through exceptional service delivery and effective stakeholder engagement, including NHS, internal FM teams, and Consort Healthcare
  • Ensure full compliance with Contract SLAs, identifying opportunities and managing associated risks
  • Gain hands-on knowledge of site operations, processes, and service delivery requirements
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to Contract and local agreements, including service performance and reaction times
  • Deploy a culture of continuous improvement by recognising successes and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Manage day-to-day maintenance tasks using the Maximo CAFM system, optimising service delivery whilst minimising downtime
  • Control inventory of critical spares and consumables to ensure uninterrupted service delivery
  • Support revenue-generating activities, including minor capital works contracts
  • Oversee defect and lifecycle issue resolution in partnership with Consort Healthcare Project Co, ensuring compliance with HTM regulations
  • Ensure workforce competence through training programmes for staff, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Promote and oversee safe working practices, adhering to Department of Health regulations and statutory standards

  • Collaborate closely with Delta Management Group to interface with project staff, suppliers, sub-contractors, and customers at all levels

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in HNC/HND engineering (mechanical/related)
  • Proven engineering management experience in a supervisory/leadership role
  • Strong mechanical engineering background, ideally with healthcare sector exposure (e.g., NHS or medical facilities)
  • Current or prior AP (or AP-equivalent) designation in MGPS L8/Mechanical Systems dynamic maintenance (or commitment to obtain via professional development)
  • Demonstrable technical leadership with experience influencing operatives and senior stakeholders
  • DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) clearance – must hold or be prepared to obtain
