The Client Our client is an interior fit-out business with over 20 years' of trading history who specialise in high end commercial office refurbishments. They are looking for an experienced Technical Services Manager / Building Services Manager to their team in Manchester.

The Role The Technical Services Manager will provide technical leadership and clarity across the full MEP lifecycle of a project - from sale through to Day 2. Working alongside the wider project team, TSMs ensure that our client develops, communicates and delivers considered, high‑quality MEP solutions that reduce risk, improve value and enhance client experience. TSMs act as the technical custodian of the MEP strategy once a project transitions from sale, ensuring that the intent established at bid stage is developed, validated, delivered, commissioned and handed over in line with agreed performance, quality and programme expectations.

Key Activities

Support the transition of MEP strategy from sale into pre‑commencement, ensuring a clear and robust handover from the MEP Lead and alignment with the agreed services intent. Assess services solution requirements by reviewing performance specifications, understanding existing building systems, and interrogating project parameters, risks and constraints. Lead the technical validation of existing building services, ensuring that as‑built information, investigations and inspections are planned, undertaken and formally recorded. Work closely with supply chain partners to develop coordinated MEP designs that are aligned with architectural intent, programme and cost parameters. Review and challenge design proposals, technical submissions, calculations and equipment selections to ensure solutions are robust, compliant and appropriate. Act as internal technical authority for MEP matters, providing clarity and direction to the wider project team and ensuring issues are resolved decisively. Establish and manage the services design development plan, ensuring clear communication of deliverables, responsibilities and timescales. Ensure effective coordination of MEP design with other trades and disciplines, working closely with the Design Manager throughout the project lifecycle. Provide plain‑English summaries of technical services strategy, risks, progress and challenges to both internal and external stakeholders. Monitor services performance during delivery, undertaking planned inspections and spot checks to ensure quality, compliance and programme alignment. Support the Project Manager with landlord, consultant and stakeholder liaison relating to MEP services. Lead the planning and execution of commissioning, witnessing and training (CW+T), ensuring this is treated as a formal, well‑planned milestone. Ensure all CW+T activities are documented, recorded and incorporated into the project audit trail. Oversee the preparation, review and submission of complete, accurate O+M information at handover. Support the project team and client during the early occupation (Day 2) period, contributing to reviews, performance discussions and smooth transition to aftercare. Continually review services solutions and processes to reduce complexity, improve outcomes and mitigate risk.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
