Technical Specialist (Oil Conditioning Monitoring)
Job Type & Details
- Employment Type: Permanent
- Location: Ellesmere Port (onsite)
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8.30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Salary: From £25,000 per annum (DOE)
- Industry: Oil Conditioning Monitoring
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensuring all samples received are diagnosed and issued within turnaround times, aligned with business and customer requirements
- Conducting investigational analysis, including:
- Planning and executing out-of-scope operations
- Generating bespoke reporting in line with business and customer needs
- Providing technical support to team leaders and colleagues to maintain service levels and laboratory operational efficiency
- Liaising with customers to keep them informed of delays or issues (may include occasional site visits)
- Maintaining instrument uptime by assisting stakeholders in resolving issues with ICP, viscosity, and FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) equipment

Qualifications & Experience
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
The candidate should possess:
- Experience in a used oil laboratory environment or a technical role within the lubricant industry
- Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Familiarity with wet chemistry analysis
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (MSP Excel Exceed & VBA skills)
Essential Academic & Technical Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering / Chemistry qualification (e.g., C&G, HNC, HND)
- Time-served experience interpreting analytical data from:
- FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy)
- GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry)
- ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) spectroscopy
