The Role
As Technical Specialist within Digital Delivery, you will play a critical hands-on role ensuring our customer and commercial systems adhere to and maintain PCI compliance standards.
Your technical expertise will guide our delivery and product teams in designing, implementing, and evidencing secure payments-related systems—turning complex compliance requirements into actionable, scalable solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical assurance that payment-related technologies meet internal and industry PCI standards across digital delivery pipelines
- Work directly with card and payment technologies to assist delivery teams in designing, building, and maintaining compliant solutions
- Translate compliance standards into practical technical design and delivery practices
- Support teams in identifying and remediating PCI-related issues stemming from updates to standards
- Ensure clear, concise reporting of compliance progress to digital leadership, contributing to strategic UAT and future planning
- Empower product and delivery teams to achieve sustainable self-sufficiency in PCI compliance
- Drive continuous improvements in tooling, workflows, and operational ownership for payments compliance
- Clearly define ownership for roles and responsibility across digital delivery teams
- Offer day-to-day technical guidance on payments compliance governance
- Facilitate the transition of compliance practices into application and product teams
- Monitor emerging technologies relevant to PCI, recommending value-add solutions aligned with cyber governance and architecture

What You’ll Bring to British Airways
- Hands-on technical expertise in payments and PCI compliance, specifically for system design and implementation-proof validation
- Deep, up-to-date knowledge of tokenisation applications and card data environments within mature technical environments
- Technical credibility to advise delivery teams on compliant technical solutions and outcomes
- Ability to distill technical compliance standards into clear, implementable development guidelines
- Sharp problem-solving and analytical skills for assessing complex, high-stakes security requirements
- Confident communicator, capable of explaining granular PCI concepts across non-technical stakeholders (e.g., managers, auditors)
- Collaborative mindset with a passion for advancing workflows, tooling, and compliance practices
Your Experience Must Include
- Engineering or architectural background in XML, Python, or Java, with experience working in Linux (e.g., Red Hat) environments—particularly in how they apply to card data or tokenisation ecosystems
- Hands-on experience with AWS (ideally network services) in segmented network environments
- Proven track record designing, building, and deploying PCI-compliant technical systems
- Experience within Agile or DevSecOps environments, collaborating with product and delivery teams while meeting stringent compliance demands
- Direct experience providing technical evidence of compliance for audit purposes
- A strong history of bridging technical execution across broad stakeholder groups, embedding compliance deep into the planning phases of projects
