Job Purpose - Technical Specialist, Tax and Estate Planning
Work as part of the specialist sales technical team to develop and deliver the technical requirements of sales strategy in order to generate continuous growth in sales. Provide technical consultancy for distribution and key advisers, case consulting to deliver large and/or complex Wealth business to Canada Life (CL). Build and maintain excellent relationships with distribution and leaders of key advisers in order to use technical and market knowledge to enhance propositions. Design and deliver seminars/workshops/webinars. Coach sales staff to improve knowledge of all markets and solutions.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Technical consultancy: Provide technical expertise around tax and estate planning for distribution and key advisers in order to maximise the sales opportunity for the adviser and Canada Life. Be the named technical representative for one or more strategically important accounts, helping manage our relationship with that business and using technical expertise and knowledge to increase business flows.
- Consult on specific tax and estate planning cases: Especially when large and/or complex scenarios to improve the chance of business coming to CL.
- Write or input into educational material for advisers: Using market knowledge to highlight sales opportunities.
- Collate market knowledge and intelligence: Including around competitors, to help shape the ongoing development of the products and surrounding material which we offer and deliver information face-to-face, via webinars, written material, or by phone/email.
- Lead/input into the design of, and delivery of, tailored seminars, workshops, and webinars: For advisers and, where appropriate, to their professional connections, to optimise sales and achieve business goals. Speak at externally managed events to increase the profile and reputation of CL.
- Work to improve knowledge of sales staff: Across estate planning products, tax, trusts, legislation, competitors, etc. This helps distribution maximise their opportunities, presents CL as a knowledgeable company, and ensures we are meeting compliance requirements. Includes attendance and training within monthly sales meetings, sales conferences, via one-to-one training, clever nelly system, etc.
- Analyse new legislation, regulation, and market developments: Highlighting the estate planning sales opportunities which may arise. Communicate sales opportunities within distribution and to advisers through presentations, webinars, articles, working with Marketing as necessary.
- Work within distribution to develop and deliver the technical tools necessary: To help distribution generate continuous growth in sales. Utilise specialist technical knowledge and market awareness to contribute ideas to sales strategy.
- Create and maintain excellent working relationships: With distribution teams, key advisers, marketing, proposition, compliance, and other relevant areas to help distribution, and continually enhance the CL offering to advisers. To work with distribution teams to develop and build business relationships with leaders of key advisers and enhance the CL value proposition and thereby increase business opportunities and achieve sales targets.
- Be distribution representative on relevant business groups: Feed into product development using specialist knowledge and market awareness of competitors and adviser practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Self-motivated, engaging, good with people, with a keen eye for detail
- Extensive autonomy due to field-based position and requirement to deal with significant travelling
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex technical information in a simple and understandable way
- Ability to understand, highlight, and clearly articulate the sales opportunities arising from complex technical and legislative changes
- Ability to disseminate information from industry groups, Government, and regulators, and identify sales opportunities arising
- Act as a specialist to encourage open and constructive relationships and help others develop skills to be effective
- Demonstrate the ability to coach
- Ability to write clear technically accurate reports/articles
- Oversee articles/reports/presentations drafted by other authors
- Excellent presentation skills to design and deliver seminars/workshops for advisers and their professional connections along with representing CL at industry-wide events
- Able to demonstrate in-depth understanding of the wealth products and provide training in support of these, and the surrounding legislative and tax framework
- Lead by example to encourage a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement in processes and business results
- Lead and support projects and initiatives and identify and manage risks
- Act as ‘eyes and ears’ in the market, utilise own specialist knowledge and that of the team to influence sales strategy
- Lead and support proactive promotion of new product launches, corporate or regional events, activities, and campaigns
- A very good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (especially PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
- Preferably suitable qualifications in tax and/or estate planning – such as TEP/ATT or equivalent
