Technical Support Engineer

Level 1 Technical Support Engineer

Location: London | Type: 6-Month Contract | Work Type: Onsite (5 Days)

Sector: [Energy Trading] Specialisation: Python

About the Role

You’ll provide first-line technical support to an internal developer community, ensuring developers remain productive by promptly resolving issues with development environments, IDEs, and AI tooling.

Collaborating with experienced engineers, you’ll:

  • Triage support requests
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges
  • Enhance documentation and workflows
  • Help define evolving developer support standards

Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 1 (L1) technical support for:
    • Python ecosystems (virtual environments – venv, Conda; package management tools – pip, Poetry)
    • VS Code and PyCharm configuration issues
    • Windows developer environments, including:
      • Environment variables
      • Permissions
      • Path configuration
  • Assist with the onboarding and configuration of AI development tools
  • Handle user provisioning, onboarding, and software licensing management
  • Escalate unresolved or complex issues when required
  • Develop internal resources, including:
    • Documentation
    • Knowledge articles for self-help guides
    • Asset management tools
  • Continuously optimise support processes using AI tooling

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in technical support, developer support, or a related IT support role
  • Proficiency in Python development environments and related tools:
    • venv, Conda, pip, Poetry
  • Experience supporting VS Code and/or PyCharm
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows development environments
  • User access management, license installs, and cloud-based access solutions
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools, such as:
    • GitHub Copilot
    • ChatGPT
    • Cursor (or similar)
  • Strong communication (internal/external) and documentation skills
  • Ability to prioritise multiple requests efficiently
  • Focused, pragmatic mindset to troubleshoot and execute
