Technical Support Manager – Anaerobic Digestion & Biogas

Representing: The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) (c.80%) & the World Biogas Association (WBA) (c.20%)

Employer: We Are Orchard Limited Location: Hybrid / Remote (UK-based preferred) Travel: Some UK travel, with occasional international travel Salary: £60,000–£70,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Most AD engineers spend their careers focused on one or two sites. This role offers something different.

As Technical Support Manager, you’ll become the trusted technical voice for more than 380 member organisations, helping operators optimise plant performance, navigate complex regulations, and raise technical standards across the UK and global biogas sector.

Working across both ADBA and WBA, you’ll support:

  • Delivery of technical guidance
  • Certification schemes
  • Training programmes
  • Industry best practices While shaping the future of anaerobic digestion (AD).

⊕ Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and regulatory support to operators and supply chain members
  • Develop and maintain industry best practice guidance
  • Deliver and grow the Anaerobic Digestion Certification Scheme (ADCS)
  • Design and deliver technical training, webinars, and Regional Operators Meetings
  • Work with regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to improve technical standards
  • Support the development of ADBA and WBA’s technical consultancy services

● Essential Criteria

✅ Several years’ hands-on operational experience managing AD plants ✅ Strong knowledge of:

  • UK AD regulations
  • Environmental permitting
  • Health & Safety
  • Compliance ✅ Ability to troubleshoot operational, engineering, and biological challenges ✅ Excellent communication skills—ability to explain complex technical issues to non-experts ✅ Experience delivering technical guidance, training, or knowledge sharing ✅ A practical, solutions-focused approach

  • Candidates whose experience is primarily advisory, academic, or sales-focused

⚪ Experience in AD plant design, commissioning, or construction ⚪ Familiarity with certification or management systems (e.g., ADCS, ISO standards) ⚪ Background in:

  • Wastewater
  • Food waste
  • Agricultural AD ⚪ Experience working with:
  • Industry groups
  • Regulators
  • Technical committees
