Reward & Benefits
- Salary: £55,000 to £62,000 (depending on experience)

About the Role
This Technical Support Specialist (Control Systems) position is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in high-value complex microscopy instrumentation and precise motion control environments. The role centres on solving complex multidisciplinary problems in advanced semiconductor equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Control Systems Technical Support
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic support for control system issues across installed Metron3D systems and manufacturing builds.
- Serve as a trusted technical escalation point for Customer Support, Field Service, and Applications teams on software-hardware integration.
- Investigate issues in motion control, sensors, feedback loops, and system automation.
- Support the fast, effective resolution of high-impact field issues affecting system performance.
Motion Control & Precision Systems
- Analyse and troubleshoot closed-loop control systems and feedback performance.
- Work hands-on with high-precision sensors, encoders, and motion control components.
Automation & Equipment Integration
- Support control system integration with semiconductor automation equipment, including EFEM interfaces and wafer-handling robotics.
- Ensure stable communication, timing, and coordination across system components.

System-Level Diagnostics
- Collaborate with the Technical Support Specialist (Hardware) and Customer Support Team to understand software-hardware interactions.
- Review system logs, control data, and diagnostics to identify root causes of instability or performance drift.
- Produve clear, structured reports for engineering and management.
Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions
- Propose design, configuration, or process improvements to prevent recurring issues.
- Support engineering teams in enhancing control system architecture and robustness.
- Capture lessons learned from field issues and feed them back into internal knowledge bases.
Technical Knowledge Development
- Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides, diagnostic workflows, and technical documentation.
- Support internal training for Customer Support, Applications, and Manufacturing teams.
Cross-Functional Support
- Participate in cross-functional discussions between technical and operational teams.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and wider product testing activities.
- Collaborate with Software teams for smooth and reliable software releases.
Who We Are Looking For
To succeed in this role, we need professionals with the following experience or skills:
Essential Requirements
- Understanding of precision electromechanical and motion control systems.
- Experience with high-stability instrumentation requiring sub-micron precision.
- Confidence in analysing system logs, telemetry, and diagnostic outputs.
- Exposure to semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, or photonics.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (hardware, software, applications, manufacturing).
- Facility for communicating complex engineering issues to international stakeholders.
Preferential Elements ("Nice to Have")
- Proficiency in Python, LabVIEW, or C#.
- Familiarity with metrology tools, nano-scale microscopy systems.
- Exposure to automation interfaces and semiconductor tool architectures.

Education / Qualifications
- Degree in Physics, Electronic Engineering, or similar OR
- Clear equivalent qualifications via relevant apprenticeship/accumulated experience.
