As we continue to grow our Belfast team, we have an opportunity for a software engineering Technical Team Lead. This role operates in a player-manager capacity, requiring a balance of hands-on engineering contribution and team leadership: your time will be split equally between people management, technical management and technical delivery. The team that you will lead is spread across the UK, so we are looking for exemplary management capability combined with a love of technical delivery.
What you’ll be doing
Technical Leadership and Delivery
- Collaborating with colleagues in software architecture and product management to further develop our market-leading, award-winning post-quantum cryptography technology
- Transforming architectural models into component designs ready to be incrementally developed, tested and deployed.
- Working closely with your team of software, automation and DevOps engineers to implement, review, test and deploy full-stack software changes.
- Analysing the metrics of your deployment changes, ensuring high resiliency and performance is maintained, and resolving issues if they arise.
- Fixing issues found internally and by our customers.
- Actively participating in Agile development activities and rituals, supporting the growth of the team and its members.

Team Leadership
- Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of software engineers, based across the UK.
- Setting clear technical direction, priorities, and delivery goals
- Conducting code reviews and uphold engineering standards
- Supporting hiring, onboarding, and performance management

What we’re looking for
- Demonstrable experience in building horizontally-scalable mission-critical enterprise software and services
- Experience of cloud service development (public/hybrid/private cloud PaaS or SaaS)
- Extensive experience of Java/Kotlin programming, ideally combined with knowledge of any of Python, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript
- Previous experience of leading/mentoring engineering teams, including management of remote staff.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Demonstrable passion for software development through self-learning, personal projects, competitions etc.
- Experience of database development (SQL and NoSQL)
- Experience with design patterns, refactoring, OO design and related areas
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Demonstrate accountability for results whilst working with high autonomy
- Adaptability, pragmatism and ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment
