Technical Trainer – Space & Defence Training Design
Location: Helensburgh, Argyle & Bute, Scotland, UK Salary: £44,000–£55,000 + competitive benefits + bonus Contract: Predominantly on-site | Option for a 4-day work week

As a Training Designer at Lockheed Martin Space, you’ll develop and deliver impactful, Defence-compliant training solutions that shape our workforce’s expertise across engineering, satellite systems, and defence operations.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for designing and delivering high-quality training in line with Defence Standards:
- Train development: Create engaging, standards-aligned training materials (e.g., courses, manuals, simulations).
- SME engagement: Conduct structured interviews with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define training needs.
- Quality assurance: Audits training documentation using company and defence benchmarks.
- Collaboration: Support training delivery (operational outputs & team-wide objectives).
- Continuous improvement: Implement innovative best practices and adapt training programs to emerging needs.
Requirements
Job Requirements (Essential)
- Proven Training Design experience in defence, engineering, military, or high-compliance sectors.
- Strong frontal presentation skills with confidence in training large groups.
- Organisational excellence: Ability to multitask and prioritise efficiently.
- Passion for innovation & adaptability with a tactical mindset.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Familiarity with JSP 822 (Defence instructional design standards).
Bonus Desirables (Preferred Qualifications & Experience)
- Space or aerospace background, particularly satellite systems.
- Field engineering or technical engineering experience.
- Training Needs Analysis (TNA) or simulation training development.
- Expertise in defense training standards (e.g., MOD DoD requirements).

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Training Development, pedagogical studies, or related field (or advanced qualifications via education/equity).
- Minimum 4 years professional experience post-levels (or 6 years without a specialised degree).
