Technical Writer (Remote) – U.S. Coast Guard C5I Systems Support

About the Role

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking a Technical Writer for a remote position, supporting the U.S. Coast Guard’s C5I systems, particularly RF communications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to C5ISC in creating, editing, and revising documents aligned with the Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC) process. Artificial development includes but is not limited to:

    • TRACI matrices
    • Flowcharts defining process ownership
    • Process Guides and Change Management documents
    • Training Plans
    • SOPs, Desk Guides, and Job Aides
    • Integrated Logistics Support Plan (ILSP)
    • Time Compliant Technical Orders (TCTO)
  • Conduct comprehensive research and interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop:

    • Process Guides
    • Technical Publications, Manuals
    • Change/Configuration Management documents (aligned with U.S. Coast Guard standards)
    • Documented recommendations concerning Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS)
  • Review and update all ILSPs and Equipment Support Sheets (ESS) to align with current policies and procedures

  • Work within SharePoint to generate process-oriented pages for metrics collection and dissemination

  • Apply correct STINFO markings to documents to ensure compliance and national security cohesion

  • Produce high-quality deliverables while adhering to the highest standards for documentation and customer service

  • Conduct research, writing, editing, and proofreading of technical data, ensuring accuracy in:

    • Manuals
    • Procedures
    • Specifications
    • Technical advisories and release notes
  • Compile, organize, analyze, and synthesize subject matter for effective documentation

  • Develop or revise hardware/software product documentation, such as:

    • Installation guides
    • Operational instructions
    • Maintenance guidelines
    • Technical advisories
  • Resolve modestly complex issues independently and escalate unresolved challenges to senior staff

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Active Secret security clearance

✔ OR

  • Associate degree in technical writing from an accredited institution PLUS 2 years of relevant experience

✔ OR

  • Completion of DoD/USCG “A” school training PLUS 4 years of technical writing experience

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills (interfacing with personnel for interviews, revisions, and stakeholder updates)

  • Proficiency in problem-solving, solution implementation, and compliance enforcement

  • Well-developed organizational, time management, and meeting facilitation skills

  • High attention to detail and adherence to editorial, government, and industry standards

Additional Skills

  • Microsoft Office Excel (advanced)
