About the Role

As an integral member of the Scale Enabling Technology (SET) team, this role will work across a range of cell and gene therapy focused projects, providing research support for both process optimisation and analytical development. The role will offer access to and training on the latest technologies used for bioprocess automation and hands-on experience with a range of analytical techniques.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory-based activities to support the development of research-based manufacturing processes. Activities may include (but are not limited to):

    • Preparation of media, buffers, and reagents
    • Stock management
    • Culturing various cell types using flasks, 2D and 3D bioreactors
    • Application of downstream purification technologies
    • Running routine assays, including:
      • Flow cytometry
      • qPCR, ddPCR
      • ELISA
      • MADLS
      • Mass photometry
      • LC-MS
      • Cell-based viral transduction assays
      • Other cell-based assays
  • Plan and carry out day-to-day laboratory tasks, supporting senior team members while working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Support laboratory operations, including:

    • Working under aseptic technique
    • Ensuring adequate reagent supply
    • Maintaining equipment safety, calibration, and operational readiness
  • Adhere to:

    • Company health and safety policies
    • Quality management system (QMS) procedures
    • Electronic laboratory notebook (eLN) for accurate data capture

Required Experience

  • Proven experience in one of the following life science disciplines: virology, biochemistry, or cell biology.
  • Working experience in research, process development, or manufacturing environments focused on biologics, viral vectors, cell therapies, or related products.
  • Competence in at least one analytical technique: flow cytometry, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, MADLS, LC-MS, or cell-based assays.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data for science-driven decision-making.
  • Experience using scientific software for data analysis and visualization (e.g., GraphPad Prism, FlowJo).
  • Maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation.

Advantageous Experience

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, downstream purification, or assay automation.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Technical expertise in bioprocessing, biologics, molecular biology, viral vectors, cell biology, and analytical assays or assay development.
  • Highly analytical and precise, with the ability to execute procedures safely and in compliance with quality requirements.
  • Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong written communication abilities, including technical documentation, reports, and protocols.
  • Attention to record-keeping and consumable stock management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and standard scientific software tools.
