About the Role
A vacancy has arisen for an Engineering Technician, Grade A, within our Locomotive department in Southampton.
Reporting to the SMMD Production Manager, this role involves working on the company’s fleet of Diesel Locomotives within a safety-critical environment.

Responsibilities
- Adhere to health & safety and local safety policy requirements, as well as other safety and technical standards.
- Ensure Freightliner engineering standards and procedures are applied and followed.
- Maintain, service, fault-find, and repair locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans.
- Keep accurate and comprehensive records of maintenance and defect/repair information, up to date in line with legislative requirements and company instructions.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
Requirements
- A strong commitment to safe working practices.
- Either an apprentice-trained or time-served background.
- Experience in electrical and/or mechanical maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of rolling stock would be advantageous.
- Must hold a relevant Engineering qualification at Level 3.
Preferred Candidate Traits:
- A safety-conscious, motivated self-starter, prepared to take ownership.
- Fully versatile in teamworking within a railway maintenance depot environment or similar engineering background.
- A flexible approach to working hours essential due to 24/7 shift roster operations.
