Technician (Drainage Maintenance) – Leicestershire County Council
Work Location & Details
- Location: Croft Depot, Arbor Road, Croft, Leicestershire LE9 3GE
- Salary: £28,605 – £31,029 per annum (pro-rata for part-time, salary adjustments pending)
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week (full-time), permanent role
- Closing Date: Sunday, 26th July 2026
- Interview Dates: TBC (mid-August, in person)
About the Role
Join Leicestershire County Council’s Environmental & Preventative Team in a dynamic role as a Technician (Drainage Maintenance), supporting a team of professionals in drainage asset management, surveys, and repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct scheduled on-site inspections of road drainage networks
- Assist with drainage investigations and surveys, including lone working (e.g., walked inspections across highways)
- Create technical maps, reports, and documentation using relevant software
- Order and oversee repairs and maintenance works on the drainage network
- Interpret engineering drawings, plans, and technical reports
- Provide technical advice and support to the team
- Work flexibly across various locations and potentially outside normal hours, including in all weather conditions due to the physically demanding nature of inspections

About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering/related field, e.g., BTEC (A-C grades) OR extensive demonstrable experience (Applicants without formal qualifications but strong experience can apply; will need to pursue essential qualifications)
- Proven ability in:
- Accurately capturing, storing, and retrieving asset/technical information
- IT proficiency (MS Office or similar, interpreting engineering drawings, maps, and plans)
- Writing technical/non-technical reports
- Communicating effectively (written/oral) with customers and colleagues
- Organisational prioritisation skills and willingness to integrate service-specific software
- Experience in engineering (e.g., highways, maintenance, design, or administration)
