Technician

Business Unit: 5065 - Gloucestershire

Location: Stroud

Job Role

Ringway is looking for a Utility Service Technician (UST) to join our Gloucestershire Highways team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced operative or technician who is passionate about health and safety, utility detection, and making a real difference to the safety of colleagues working on-site.

As a UST, you will play a critical role in helping prevent utility strikes by carrying out detailed underground utility surveys ahead of excavation works. Using specialist equipment including CAT & Genny, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and utility locating technology, you will identify, map and report underground services to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently.

This role would suit someone currently working within highways, utilities, civil engineering or construction who enjoys utility detection and is looking to develop this area into a full-time career.

Duties

  • Carry out pre-excavation utility surveys across the Gloucestershire Highways network.
  • Use CAT & Genny, GPR and other utility detection equipment to identify and map underground services.
  • Produce clear survey reports and site markings to support safe excavation activities.
  • Plan and manage your own workload and diary effectively.
  • Support operational teams by providing expert advice on safe digging practices.
  • Coach and mentor operatives in the correct use of utility detection equipment.
  • Review and analyse utility detection data to improve safe digging standards across the contract.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture at all times.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
