Job Role: CNC Machine Operator (Mechanical Design & Production Support)

Location: North Wales Site, Qioptiq Ltd

Job Description

The Role

You’ll join Qioptiq’s Mechanical Engineering Team and contribute to high-precision component manufacture using CNC machinery. Your expertise will support the design and production of mechanically robust solutions critical for Defence and Aerospace applications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machinery in a well-equipped machine shop
  • Set up relevant machinery to ensure efficient production of components to tight tolerances
  • Interpret and apply complex design drawings
  • Enforce health & safety standards within the workshop
  • Identify productivity improvements in the machine shop
  • Maintain rigorous quality and operational standards across all manufacturing stages
  • Supervise and instruct other employees on machinery use and processes
  • Ensure cleanliness and scheduled maintenance of equipment and workspaces
  • Participate in cross-department support and business improvement initiatives
  • Prototype and manufacture special project components beyond standard production

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Mechanical Engineering Technical Certification
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in NC (Numerical Control) Machining – including machine setup & operation
  • Strong grasp of workshop health & safety guidelines
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving project needs
