Mechanical Design Engineer – Teledyne Qioptiq Ltd

Joining Qioptiq Ltd, a division of Teledyne, you will be part of a team that designs and manufactures cutting-edge optronic solutions for Defence & Aerospace. Our key markets include:

  • Head-up displays for commercial airliners
  • Helmet-mounted displays for 4th & 5th generation fast jet platforms
  • Night vision systems for the dismounted soldier
  • Advanced electro-optics for airborne, maritime, and vehicle platforms

Qioptiq is globally recognised for its high standards of business integrity, customer service, product quality, and innovation. Due to exciting growth at our North Wales site, we are now seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team.

Job Outline

You will be responsible for developing mechanical design solutions that meet business requirements. This role involves hands-on work in a fully functioning Machine Shop, focusing on CNC machining and precision component manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines to produce high-quality parts within tight tolerances
  • Set up machinery to ensure efficient production of precision components
  • Interpret and apply complex design drawings in manufacturing processes
  • Ensure health and safety compliance in all workshop operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity and working methods
  • Maintain high quality standards throughout every stage of manufacture
  • Train and guide employees in machine operation and processes
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of equipment and work areas
  • Support cross-departmental needs as required
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs within the business
  • Plan and manufacture one-off components or special project work outside standard production

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technical Certification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Mechanical Engineering Qualification or proven experience
  • Practical experience with NC CNC Machining, including machine set-up and operation
  • A solid understanding of health and safety standards in a workshop environment
  • Willingness to demonstrate flexibility when required
