Track Transit System Engineer Technician
At the heart of Heathrow’s operations, you’ll specialise as a Track Transit System (TTS) Engineer Technician, maintaining and optimising critical airport infrastructure that keeps millions in transit every year.
About the Role
You’ll play a vital part in Heathrow’s Track Transit System, ensuring specialist equipment performs at its best. This hands-on, multi-skilled role requires dedication to boosting reliability, driving efficiency and supporting critical airport activity.
Your work will contribute to:
- Delivering exceptional passenger experiences
- Enhancing operational resilience and safety
- Completing planned and reactive maintenance tasks
- Boosting asset performance through analytical problem-solving

Starting Salary
£46,345–£49,584 (Plus a £6,624 shift allowance)
Shift Pattern
2 on, 2 off, 16 at home – varying to ensure 24/7 operations
Elements of the Role
- Keeping Heathrow’s TTS system running smoothly, ensuring planes and passengers keep moving
- Diagnosing and resolving issues quickly to prevent costly downtime
- Maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and mitigation procedures
- Preventative maintenance to reduce future disruptions
- Guiding automation upgrades and energy optimisation
You’ll contribute to continuous improvement, ensuring Heathrow stays at the cutting-edge of airport infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimise the track transit system and its assets
- Certify safe, reliable operations of electrical, electronic, mechanical and electrical systems
- Diagnose faults and implement performance-enhancing solutions
- Monitor and update maintenance records to meet compliance requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on operational excellence initiatives
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- A recognised multi-skilled NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline, such as:
- Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical + Electrical)
- Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- Electromechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
- Controls Engineering
- OR relevant indentation apprenticeship (identification number required)
- Note: Standalone qualifications (BTEC, degrees) are not accepted unless supplemented by a NVQ.
Experience
- A strong track record of hands-on technical work
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Professional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence, with ability to secure and maintain airside permits and licences
