We are seeking a highly motivated technologist to join our Advanced Technology team in Edinburgh. This role focuses on exploring, developing and demonstrating novel technology and system architecture concepts for future product differentiation in a fast-moving, exploratory environment. Working in close collaboration with senior technical leaders, you will take early-stage ideas through feasibility assessment, modelling, prototyping, experimentation and demonstration. You will evaluate the practicality of new approaches, identify key risks and trade-offs, and find pragmatic ways to combine mathematics, sensors, electronics, data analysis and algorithms to address complex problems. \n

Key Responsibilities: Develop and advance new technology concepts from early-stage ideas through to demonstrated feasibility Assess the feasibility and practicality of novel approaches, identifying key risks, trade-offs and fundamental limitations Develop prototypes, experimental platforms and proof-of-concept demonstrators to evaluate new technologies and solutions and showcase their value to customers Define and execute experiments, analyse data, and drive lab-based validation to characterise performance, validate hypotheses, and guide technical direction Develop models, algorithms and analysis techniques to investigate new concepts and address complex problems Iterate quickly when results do not meet expectations, refining concepts, prototypes and methodologies to converge on viable solutions Present findings clearly and contribute to technical reviews through effective communication and documentation Directly contribute to product competitiveness by establishing that new features and solutions are feasible, advantageous and robust for product use, while identifying high-value opportunities for future innovation

Required Skills and Qualifications: Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline (preferably 2:1 or better); advanced degree (MSc/PhD) advantageous Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to understand new concepts quickly, ask the right questions and fill gaps in incomplete problem definitions Ability to work across disciplines, combining electronics, algorithms, modelling and system-level thinking Proven experience developing prototypes and experimental systems to evaluate new ideas and technologies Hands-on lab experience, including development of measurement methodologies and systems, test automation, experimental characterisation, and data analysis Experience with MATLAB, Python or similar tools for modelling, data analysis, prototyping and automation Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to expose both conceptual and implementation issues quickly and iterate toward solutions Pragmatic approach to engineering, making appropriate trade-offs to prove concepts efficiently without getting lost in unnecessary detail Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly, support technical discussions and influence direction across the team

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: Experience working with sensors, signal processing, or data-driven algorithms Experience developing novel measurement techniques or methodologies for characterising emerging technologies Experience applying statistical analysis, data visualisation, or advanced data-processing techniques to experimental data Experience developing customer demonstrations to showcase the value of new concepts and technologies Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and apply new tools, technologies, and techniques to solve unfamiliar problems
