The Role

Reporting to the CEO and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, as Technology Director, you will turn So Energy’s business strategy into the product, data, AI and technology capability needed to make sustainable energy simple.

You will build a product and technology function that improves customer experience, lowers cost to serve, strengthens data-led decision making and enables safe, repeatable use of AI across the business. They will balance innovation and speed to delivery with commercial discipline, security, regulatory compliance and clear ownership of outcomes.

Reporting to Charlie Davies, CEO & Co-Founder 👋

⭐ Why So Energy?

So Energy was created in 2015 because we knew energy suppliers could be better. Since then, we’ve grown rapidly but sustainably, with 300,000 customers and over 450 Energists (what we call our people). But we’re not done! We’re on the road to a net-zero future, and thanks to our partnership with ESB, we’re well on the way. We’re customer-centric, tech-led, and passionate about sustainability.

We’re driven to do our best for our customers, for each other, and for our planet. That’s why we’ve built a workplace culture that’s supportive, empowering, inclusive, and full of opportunities to grow and make an impact.

At So Energy, we take pride in our values-driven culture. We live and breathe by our six core values that guide everything we do:

  • Clear
  • Honest
  • Ambitious
  • Inquisitive
  • Caring
  • Sustainable

What you’ll be getting up to in this role:

  • Own the technology, product, data and AI strategy that delivers So Energy's business goals, and translate that into a roadmap.
  • Own the technology P&L, sizing the function to what the business needs, keeping spend disciplined, and driving down cost to serve year on year.
  • Unify engineering, product, IT and data under a single delivery model, removing duplicated ownership and driving clear accountability.
  • Own platform reliability, security and delivery performance against clear KPIs, and ensure So Energy meets its regulatory and governance obligations.
  • Set the standard for how AI is used safely and productively across the business, from agentic tooling within technology to responsible use elsewhere in the company.
  • Build, coach and retain a high-performing technology leadership team with the product, engineering, data, security and AI capability So Energy needs for its next phase of growth.
  • Manage key supplier and partner relationships, particularly cloud providers, ensuring commercial terms are competitive and delivery meets expectations.
  • Represent technology on the SLT and work with peers to drive commercial and customer outcomes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
