Our national Technology Services team is seeking a Technology Services Consultant to deliver cutting-edge projects in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV), Smart Cities, Mobility, and all forms of technology-led transport solutions. This role will engage with clients across the UK and internationally, offering strategic advisory services, technical research, design, and delivery.
We work closely with diverse clients in the transportation sector, including National Transport Authorities, Combined Authorities, Local Authorities, Contractors, and both private sector entities as well as internal AECOM businesses.
Recent & Current Projects
The team is currently engaged in:
- Innovative transport technology, including Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV), Cooperative ITS (C-ITS), Mobility as a Service (MaaS)
- Planning, design, and implementation of Smart Motorways schemes and performance assessments
- Development and delivery of next-generation mobility solutions such as connected vehicle testbeds and autonomous vehicle trials
- ITS strategy, action plans, and transformational programmes for transport authorities and national road operators
- Planning, designing, and implementing full ITS solutions, including traffic control centres, telecommunications networks, speed enforcement systems, and traffic management solutions
- Sustainable transport initiatives, such as EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy projects, and depot decarbonisation
- Providing technical leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility and design stages to performance monitoring
What You’ll Do as a Consultant
- Offer specialist technical consultancy and design services for ITS, CAV, Smart Cities, Mobility:
- Project bids and technical work across C-ITS and related fields
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends to develop new solutions through AI, predictability models, and latest ITS developments
- Conduct research, data analysis, and recommendation drafting tailored to clients and the future transport market
- Support requirements capture, system architecture design and development, including systems and services modelling
- Collaborate with AECOM colleagues and external partners to:
- Develop opportunities, bids, and projects
- Support strategic partner identification and industry engagement
- Elevate your and the company’s technical and business profile
- Act as an academic and industry thought leader, distilling complex incumbents into meaningful and accessible conclusions

Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, or Related IT Fields – or equivalent work experience
- Experience in technical transport, IT-related fields, Intelligent Transport Solutions, Connected Mobility, C-ITS, or AI-driven algorithms
- A strong academic record or industry reputation, complemented by:
- Research skills (e.g., formal studies in ITS, autonomous transport systems, IoT-driven models, etc.)
- Programming proficiency/experience (Python, R, SignalK, or simulation for mobility/transport simulation)
- Understanding of transport technology landscapes (global trends, challenges, and emerging demand profiles)
- Research: Explore emerging transportation modalities** and integrate innovative methodologies.
