We are recruiting a TechOps Lead for an award-winning, rapidly growing technology business that is transforming parking through automation, connected devices, and digital payment technology.
This is a player-manager position for someone who combines strong infrastructure and networking knowledge with proven experience of managing a technical team.
You will divide your time roughly equally between leading the Technical Operations function and working directly on complex technical issues. You will set the standards for how incidents are diagnosed and resolved, while remaining the senior escalation point when the team encounters a problem it cannot fix.
The technology estate
The technology estate includes ANPR cameras, payment kiosks, edge devices, tablets, routers, and other networked equipment operating across multiple sites. Your team is responsible for keeping this infrastructure connected, secure, and generating the data required by the wider platform.
The role
You will take full ownership of the Technical Operations function, including the team, ticket pipeline, monitoring platforms, device estate, and network infrastructure.
Your priority will be to move the function towards a more consistent and preventative approach. This means improving monitoring, standardizing configurations, documenting diagnostic processes, and addressing the root causes of recurring incidents.
When a camera disconnects, a network fails, or a site stops generating enforcement data, your team will be responsible for identifying the problem and restoring service. You will provide technical direction, support your engineers, and personally lead the investigation of more complex incidents.
You will also act as the technical lead for new site installations, making sure the network, hardware, configuration, and testing are correct before each site goes live.
Team and function leadership
You will:
- Line manage the Technical Operations engineers, setting clear expectations for the quality and speed of their work.
- Hold regular one-to-ones, conduct performance reviews, and support the continued development of the team.
- Identify skills gaps and provide practical training, mentoring, and technical guidance.
- Create and maintain diagnostic workflows, escalation procedures, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Establish clear standards so that technical problems are investigated and resolved consistently.
- Own the Jira Cloud Service Desk pipeline, including ticket logging, categorization, prioritization, and root cause documentation.
- Report to the Chief Operating Officer on uptime, resolution times, recurring incidents, and technical improvement projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Monitoring and device management
You will take responsibility for monitoring, alerting, and remote device management across the complete technology estate.
This will include:
- Using information such as camera uptime, enforcement volumes, and connectivity trends to identify deterioration before it becomes a serious incident.
- Managing the configuration, deployment, and lifecycle of ANPR cameras, payment kiosks, edge devices, tablets, and networking equipment.
- Developing preventative maintenance strategies that reduce outages and the volume of reactive support work.
- Leading structured root cause investigations into recurring or serious technical incidents.
- Producing post-incident reports and ensuring that agreed corrective actions lead to permanent improvements.
- Maintaining accurate inventory records for deployed devices, replacement equipment, and networking hardware.
- Ensuring that devices meet the required security, compliance, and configuration standards.
Infrastructure and networks
You will own the network infrastructure operating across all sites.
You must have strong practical knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, VPNs, port forwarding, DHCP, DNS, and firewall rules. You should be comfortable configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls rather than relying entirely on third-party suppliers.
You will:
- Standardize network configurations and create repeatable deployment templates.
- Maintain accurate configuration records and network diagrams.
- Troubleshoot complete operational workflows from the ANPR camera and network connection through to the backend platform, contravention generation, payment, and reporting.
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex hardware, software, and networking problems.
- Evaluate existing infrastructure and recommend improvements to hardware, suppliers, architecture, and technical tools.
- Use CLI, SSH, and remote diagnostic tools to investigate and resolve problems.
New site implementation
You will provide the technical workstream for new site installations.
Working alongside the Onboarding Project Manager and Estate Manager, you will be responsible for network design, hardware specification, camera positioning, remote commissioning, and system configuration.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
You will conduct technical acceptance testing before each site goes live and provide clear technical direction when contractors are required to complete work at the site.
The Onboarding Project Manager will coordinate the overall implementation, while you ensure that the technology has been correctly specified, configured, connected, and tested before handover.
What we are looking for
You must have:
- At least six years’ experience in IT support, infrastructure, field engineering, or technical operations.
- Proven experience managing a small technical team, including formal line management responsibility.
- Experience supporting IoT devices or another distributed technology estate operating across multiple sites.
- Strong networking knowledge across IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, VPNs, DHCP, DNS, and firewalls.
- Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience using remote device management and monitoring platforms.
- The ability to carry out structured root cause analysis and identify permanent solutions.
- Confidence using CLI, SSH, and remote diagnostic tools.
- Strong technical documentation and record-keeping disciplines.
- An understanding of endpoint security and device compliance.
Experience with ANPR, CCTV, connected cameras, IoT, or similar physical technology infrastructure would be particularly valuable.
Additional knowledge of Raspberry Pi or edge devices, cloud platforms, APIs, data pipelines, BigQuery, Microsoft 365, or Jira Cloud would also be advantageous. ITIL certification would be desirable but is not essential.
The person
This role requires someone who takes ownership. When you identify a problem, you either resolve it or make sure that the right person does.
You must be comfortable making decisions, setting standards, and holding people accountable. You will need to remain calm and methodical when dealing with incidents affecting live operational sites.
You should be able to communicate technical information clearly to engineers, contractors, operational colleagues, and senior management.
Most importantly, you must want to prevent problems rather than simply become good at repeatedly fixing them.
If you are an experienced technical operations or infrastructure professional who still enjoys working directly with technology but is ready to lead a function, this is an opportunity to take genuine ownership within a rapidly scaling business.
