Business Developer (UK-Based Depot Role at Howdens, The UK’s No.1 Trade Kitchen Supplier)


About the Role

Join Howdens—the UK’s leading trade kitchen supplier—as a Business Developer, playing a pivotal role in growing your local depot. This is an opportunity for someone who thrives on face-to-face and phone-based customer interaction, relationship-building, and driving business growth in a fast-paced, commercial environment.

You’ll introduce new trade customers to Howdens, foster long-term partnerships with existing accounts, and identify opportunities to expand revenue streams by deeply understanding customer needs and projects. Working within a dynamic depot team, your role will align with telesales teams, Kitchen Sales Designers, and Territory Sales Representatives to turn conversations into sales.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Sales Growth

  • Cold and warm calling existing trade customers to build long-term loyalty and future revenue.
  • Analyse customer data to identify inactive accounts and reactivate them proactively.
  • Monitor customer projects to spot opportunities where Howdens products can add value or drive repeat sales.
  • Identify trends or gaps to recommend bespoke solutions to depots/sales designers.

Lead Generation & Pipeline Management

  • Manage targeted lists and hit daily call targets to consistently grow opportunities.
  • Schedule and arrange on-site surveys/introductions for Howdens Kitchen Sales Designers.
  • Convert leads to one-on-one meetings and ensure alignment across teams.

Operational Support

  • Promote products, promotions, and trade events to customers to maintain engagement.
  • Assist the depot in administrative tasks, including invoicing, CRM updates, and general operational workflows.
  • Assist Territorial teams in hitting sales targets and datapoints using a collaborative approach.

Requirements & Skills

Essential

  • Below-the-lineability (telesales, account management, or customer-focused roles) is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal skills—both warm, pivotal client interactions and cold outreach.
  • Commercial drive with a focus on response rates, conversions, and revenue growth.
  • Proactivity: self-starter who thrives under daily date-weight targets.
  • Customer-centricity—ability to listen, listen, then understand client needs to provide tailored solutions.
  • Stamina & resilience for a working wage—primarily cold calling and CRM management.

Desirable

  • Industry familiarity with trade kitchen, joinery, or commercial B2B sales related to construction.
  • Knowledge of CRM tools (e.g., SalesForce) to track customer activity/opportunities.
  • Flexible attitude to manage life easterly or weekend hours if impact requires.
