About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and friendly Temp Kitchen Assistant to support a children’s nursery in Marylebone. This is a temporary position paying £15.12 per hour. The successful candidate will assist the kitchen team with food preparation, cleaning, and maintaining high standards of hygiene while working with children’s menus and dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with basic food preparation under supervision, including portioning, chopping, and preparing simple meals and snacks.
- Support service by plating and distributing meals to nursery staff as required.
- Ensure all food is prepared and stored in line with dietary requirements and allergen information for children.
- Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, including washing up, sanitizing surfaces, and waste disposal.
- Follow safe food handling procedures and adhere to nursery safeguarding and health & safety policies.
- Receive and check deliveries, label and rotate stock to minimise waste.
- Work cooperatively with nursery staff to support mealtimes and any reasonable requests related to food service.

Person Specification
- Previous experience in a kitchen, catering, or childcare food-preparation setting is desirable but not essential.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene or equivalent is preferred; training can be discussed for the right candidate.
- Good understanding of basic allergens and safe food handling practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work calmly during busy service periods.
- Clear communication skills and willingness to work as part of a small team.
- Right to work in the UK. A DBS check is desirable; if not already held, one may be requested depending on the placement.
Working Hours & Location
- Location: Marylebone, London (children’s nursery).
- Temporary shifts, primarily weekdays. Exact hours will vary by assignment; flexibility is beneficial.
- Pay rate: £15.12 per hour.
