Job Details
- Location: Welwyn Garden City
- Work Pattern: Hybrid (37 hours per week)
- Contract: Permanent
- Salary: Starting at £30,756pa, progression to £34,011pa with annual increments (inclusive of outer fringe allowance)
About the Role
We are seeking a flexible, motivated individual to join our Housing Needs Team. You will work within the Council’s Housing Options team, carrying out operational duties related to the provision of the Council’s temporary accommodation stock.
As a crucial member of the team, your role includes:
- Providing support and advice to vulnerable individuals and families facing temporary housing needs
- Assisting the Temporary Accommodation Manager in maintaining high standards and the availability of temporary accommodation
- Conducting Health and Safety checks at accommodation sites and addressing any issues identified
- Acting as the first point of contact for customers, resolving problems, and signing households up for accommodation
Additionally, you will coordinate efforts to support individuals and families move into longer-term housing solutions by liaising closely with Housing Options officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Offering customer-focused assistance to vulnerable individuals.
- Ensuring adherence to Health and Safety standards at all accommodation sites.
- Handling customer inquiries, conflicts, and complex situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Managing household registrations and adjustments to temporary housing arrangements.
- Working in collaboration with team members and stakeholders to find and deliver sustainable housing solutions.

Person Specification – Requirements
We are looking for candidates who exhibit the following qualities:
- Passion for Housing & Social Welfare – Demonstrable interest in helping vulnerable people manage difficult living circumstances.
- Excellent Customer Service Skills – Ability to build rapport with diverse backgrounds, including those exhibiting challenging or aggressive behaviour.
- Multi-Tasking & Prioritisation – Confidence in managing a variety of tasks efficiently while ensuring customer welfare remains central to every decision.
- Independence & Teamwork – Ability to work self-sufficiently as well as effectively within a collaborative team structure.
- Proactive Communication – Strong ability to converse with members of the public, offering clear and accurate verbal advice in spoken English.
Essential Criteria
- Full UK driving licence and regular access to a car (role involves frequent travel between sites).
