Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Tenure-track Position in Number Theory

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the field of Number Theory (or closely related fields such as Algebraic Geometry and Representation Theory) with a target start date of August 1, 2027.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates will have interests that complement and enhance McGill's current research strengths in algebra & number theory, especially in the areas of arithmetic geometry and automorphic representations.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Mathematics or a related field at the date of appointment.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding records or potential in research, teaching, and mentorship.

Duties

  • Conducting research
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate classes
  • Supervising students
  • Standard administrative duties at the levels of the department, university, and research community

Salary

Salary will be negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Documentation

  • A cover letter
  • A curriculum vitae (including a list of publications)
  • A research outline
  • A teaching statement which includes an account of teaching experience
  • At least four letters of references, one of which specifically addresses the teaching record
  • Candidates are also encouraged to provide web links for up to five selected reprints or preprints
