About the Role
You will act as a strategic pricing leader within Tesco Bank’s loans segment, focusing on:
- Analysing external lending markets and competitive landscapes to define optimal pricing strategies that align with profitability and growth KPIs.
- Conducting monthly financial reviews, assessing profit drivers, variances, and the impact of pricing decisions on commercial performance.
- Providing data-driven insights to support new product launches, strategic initiatives, and stakeholder decision-making.
- Collaborating with sales, risk, and commercial teams to optimise loan pricing models and enhance market share capture.
This role sits at the intersection of financial analysis, commercial strategy, and risk management, requiring a blend of technical excellence, business acumen, and influencing skills.
Purpose of the Role
To deliver commercial banking success through:
- Market analysis: Identifying trends, competitive differentiators, and growth opportunities.
- Pricing optimisation: Ensuring profitability while maintaining market competitiveness.
- Product development: Leading the design and launch of innovative loan solutions (e.g., cash management, trade finance).
- Strategic partnerships: Building collaborations with financial institutions, tech providers, and industry experts.
- Relationship management: Supporting key B2B clients with personalised financial solutions.
- Sales & performance tracking: Monitoring KPIs (e.g., client acquisition, loan volume, revenue) and optimising sales funnels.
Accountabilities

Strategic Market Intelligence
- Execute market research to assess competitive positioning, industry shifts, and growth-stage segment gaps.
- Develop data-backed pricing models tailored to SME, corporate, and specialised loan products.

Product & Pricing Leadership
- Define pricing strategies balancing volume growth, risk-adjusted returns, and customer affordability.
- Drive continuous pricing optimisation using financial metrics, macroeconomic trends, and behavioural insights.

Innovation & Partnerships
- Propose new financial solutions aligned with Tesco Bank’s commercial objectives.
- Foster strategic alliances to enhance product offerings (e.g., embedded finance, digital ecosystem integrations).

Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Advise target companies on tailored loan terms, structuring deals to drive revenue and relationship loyalty. -Present insights to senior leadership (Director/MD level), influencing policy, investment decisions, and resource allocation.

Performance & Risk Management
- Track leading/laging KPIs (e.g., conversion rates, profit margins, customer lifetime value).
- Identify process inefficiencies in the loan origination and servicing lifecycle to improve conversion and retention.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
- Analytical Rigour:
- Exceptional ability to interpret financial/lending data, spot trends, and translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Commercial Acumen:
- Deep understanding of how pricing impacts profitability, risk, customers, and operational execution.
- Technical Expertise:
- SAS/SQL proficiency (or equivalent) for advanced data modelling.
- Expert-level Excel (pivot tables, financial functions, VBA macros).
- Stakeholder Management:
- Confidence to engage and influence executives (e.g., directors, managing directors) in data-heavy discussions.
- Communication Clarity:
- Ability to simplify technical findings for non-financial stakeholders (e.g., sales teams, clients).
- Financial Services Background:
- Prior experience in lending, pricing, or financial analytics (required).
- Preference for roles in commercial banking, corporate finance, or risk assessment.
Highly Valued (Not Compulsory)
- Power BI: Experience in data visualisation and dashboards for real-time monitoring.
- Large-Org Navigation: Familiarity with multi-division banking structures and corporate governance.
- Digital/Tech Adjacency: Knowledge of financial tech tools (e.g., embedded lending, API integrations).
