About the Role

This role is about providing outstanding service to our customers, coming together in teamwork, and operating safely across the store. Whether you are a team leader or an operational colleague, you will take on a crucial role to help Tesco become every customer's favourite way to shop.

To meet customer and operational demands, we are looking for new colleagues to commit to the following availability times on the days listed below:

  • Our scheduling ensures your contracted hours will fall within these windows.
  • You’ll have 3 weeks notice before starting your shifts, allowing you to organise your personal commitments.
  • While our preferred availability matches closely, minor adjustments—like different time slots or days—can often work.

Responsibilities

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Engaging with customers with passion and pride—customer service excellence is a must.
  • **Deep product knowledge—**get familiar with the shelves to help customers with their choices.
  • Working across service, picking, and replenishing areas—you’ll support operational tasks.
  • Practicing training and safety protocols to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Making smart decisions that benefit our customers.
  • Delivering seasonal promotions, community events, and charity initiatives to create a positive environment.
  • Ensuring smooth operations, stretching sales, supporting sustainability efforts and improving service outcomes.

Requirements

  • Age: Must be over 18 to apply.
  • Passion for service: A drive to deliver amazing customer experiences – your smile and enthusiasm makes a difference.
  • Customer rapport: Your ability to connect with customers and have them walk out delighted matters.
  • Decision-making: You’ll act with confidence and initiative to ensure customers are well cared for.
  • Teamwork: Care for colleagues and maintain strong communication—collaboration is key.
  • Punctuality and presentation: Always on time, polished, and ready to represent our customer-first mindset.

Pay and Working Hours

Our Tesco Colleague pay starts at £13.28Per hour, increasing to £14.55 within the M25 or where applicable. Additional payments may be applied based on store location.

We offer minimum guaranteed hours of 16 per week for new colleagues but can accommodate fewer scheduled hours from day one. Flexibility is encouraged, and we’ll tailor shifts to better fit your needs if possible.
