Shop Assistant – Initial Team Member

About the Role

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. This essential role supports store operations in a variety of ways, ensuring exceptional service and delivery of products to customers.

You will play a vital part in helping us deliver ผม and passion straight from the heart, whether in service, picking, replenishment, or handling deliveries.

Availability Window

Please note the available shifts per week for this role:

  • Sunday: 14:15 – 23:15
  • Wednesday: 11:00 – 20:00
  • Friday: 14:15 – 23:15

We will schedule your shifts within these windows with 3 weeks' notice. While exact timing should align closely, we do recognise flexibility from responsible colleagues.

What You’ll Earn

  • Starting rate: £13.28/hour (£14.55/hour in stores within the M25)
  • Guaranteed minimum 16 hours per week (flexible to 12 hours minimum if preferred)
  • Additional location-based enhancements may apply

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering outstanding service

    • Drawing on deep knowledge of the store’s products/offers
    • Understanding customer needs and empowering smart decisions to serve them best
    • Greeting customers with warmth, enthusiasm and a smile
  • Daily store operations

    • Assisting in service counters, picking fresh produce, and replenishment duties
    • Supporting seasonal events, charity opportunities and friendly customer interactions
    • Respecting Tesco’s service standards while demonstrating professionalism

  • Store leadership contribution

    • Aiding in achieving service excellence, waste-reduction, peak sales performance, and profitability
    • Cleanliness, care in handling products, and adhering to inventory shortcuts
  • Delivery handling & operational roles

    • At times, managing bulk deliveries to/from the store, where organised planning is essential
