Store Colleague Role at Tesco

About the Role

Tesco is looking for passionate team members who are committed, flexible, and dedicated to providing excellent customer service.

Our Tesco Colleague role starts with a mid-market hourly pay rate of £13.28 an hour, increasing to £14.55 an hour for stores within the M25. Additional payments may also apply based on your location and role.

We ensure all colleagues receive a minimum of 16 guaranteed weekly hours upon joining. However, flexible shift opportunities are available (minimum 12 hours), so please apply regardless of your preferred working hours.

Availability Window

We require specific availability across different days of the week:

  • Saturday → 07:00 - 14:00
  • Sunday → 14:00 - 22:00
  • Thursday → 13:00 - 22:00

Shifts are scheduled within these windows. We provide 3 weeks' notice for shift times. Close matches to these hours are also considered—contact us if you're unsure.


Core Responsibilities

You will play a central role in making our customers feel valued and well-served. Key duties include:

  • Serving customers with passion and pride, delivering natural and friendly service.
  • Knowledgeable about products and services in-store, helping customers make informed choices.
  • Supporting across all store areas including service, picking, and replenishment zones, based on requirements.
  • Applying training received to improve safety, efficiency, and customer excellence.
  • Making customer-focused decisions to increase service quality, reduce waste, and drive sales.

Additionally:

  • Participating in seasonal, community, or charity events to create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Understanding store performance metrics and contributing to sales growth and cost efficiency.
  • Handling merchandise with care to maintain quality.
  • Encompassing Tesco values and being a brand ambassador, ensuring all feel welcome.
  • Occasionally accepting deliveries and supporting store operations as needed.
