Shop Colleague – Various Stores

About the Role

We’re looking for committed, enthusiastic colleagues who love serving our customers and helping to make their shopping experience exceptional. Whether you're looking for flexibility, career progression, or a role where every day feels fresh, this opportunity is for you.

Pay & Hours

  • We offer starting pay of £13.28 per hour, with additional payments depending on location and skills.
  • Typically, we guarantee 16 hours per week to all new colleagues, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (minimum 12), we welcome applications too.
  • You’ll receive 3 weeks’ notice of your scheduled shifts.
  • We’ll aim to accommodate your availability, even if it’s not an exact match.

Key Responsibilities

As a Shop Colleague, your primary focus is serving customers with passion, along with contributing to the smooth running of the store. You’ll:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service: Welcome shoppers, anticipate needs, and create a pleasant, inclusive shopping experience.
  • Be a product expert: Show passion and knowledge for the products and services available in your store.
  • Work collaboratively: Support across service, picking, and replenishment areas to ensure the store runs efficiently.
  • Apply safety and quality standards: Follow all procedures to maintain a brilliant service, reducing waste and delivering high profitability.
  • Engage in community efforts: Participate in seasonal, charitable, and local events to enhance store ambiance.
  • Contribute to store performance: Understand your role in driving service, sales, waste reduction, and profits.
  • Handle products with care: Ensure items reach customers in their best condition.
  • Be yourself and embody Tesco values: Embrace our commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion while following store policies.

To thrive as a Shop Colleague, you’ll need:

  • A genuine passion for customer service, with a friendly and proactive attitude.
  • Strong customer rapport-building skills—your goal is to ensure shoppers leave with a satisfying experience.
  • The ability to take the initiative, making decisions that benefit customers, even when faced with challenges.
  • Team player mindset: Collaborate openly with colleagues, contribute to team spirit, and enjoy shared successes.
  • Commitment to punctuality and professional presentation—acting as a brand ambassador for Tesco.

NOTE: We require applicants to be over 18, with an exception for roles requiring work before 06:15 AM or after 09:45 PM (or specific areas such as warehouse/delivery, bakery, spirits, or driving).
