About Tesco Bakery & Service Assistant Role

Pay & Hours

Starts at £13.28/hour (or £14.55/hour for stores within the M25). Additional payments may vary by location.

As standard, we offer 16+ guaranteed hours per week. Shorter shifts (minimum 12 hours/week) are also an option if preferred.

Fully outlined availability windows apply, with 3 weeks' notice for shifts. Staff can expect clear planning in advance.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Focus

  • Serve customers with natural care: Offer warmth, pride, and tailored support without rote scripts.

Production & Quality

  • Bake fresh daily: Prepare scratch products (bread, baked goods) in batches, ensuring minimal leftovers (yield adherence) and optimal quality.
  • Handle products with care: Inspect, store, and serve items to preserve freshness and standards.
  • Allergen & hygiene compliance: Strict adherence to UK food safety laws.

Safety & Operations

  • Operate bakery equipment safely: Pre-shift checks, including emergency stop testing, log findings with Shift Leader if anomalies arise.
  • Waste management: Follow protocols for food waste reduction, recycling, and responsible composting.
  • Cross-fare support: Cover roles in service stations or stock replenishment as needed.
