About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Tesco team as a Master Baker (Perishable Products), where you’ll be responsible for producing high-quality scratch baked goods for our customers. Passion for fresh products, attention to detail, and a commitment to exceptional service are key traits for this role.
Availability Window
Our Tesco Colleague rate of pay starts from £13.28 per hour, rising to £14.55 for stores within the M25. Additional location-specific payments may apply.
Tesco guarantees at least 16 hours per week for new colleagues but offers flexibility for 12 hours per week. Availability windows for shifts are outlined in the table below. We’ll schedule shifts within these times, with 3 weeks’ notice. If your availability aligns closely (even if not identical), we’d still welcome your application.

Your Responsibilities
As a Master Baker, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring Tesco customers receive fresh, high-quality products daily. Key responsibilities include:

Customer Service & Product Excellence
- Serve customers with passion and pride, ensuring they enjoy exceptional service.
- Bake in waves for scratch products to guarantee freshness, minimise waste, and meet yield requirements.
- Handle products with care to preserve quality and presentation.

Safety & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to all food hygiene, safety, and allergen guidelines.
- Proactively check emergency stop buttons and machinery safety before operation—report any concerns to the Shift Leader/Team Manager.
- Dispose of waste responsibly, following food waste and recycling policies.
- Stop work immediately if safety risks are detected, prioritising colleagues and customers.

- Deliver products across the store (e.g., service, picking, and replenishment areas).

- Do justice to your department’s products and services, applying all relevant training to ensure safe, effective operations.

- Develop a deep understanding of your store’s performance metrics, including waste reduction, sales growth, and shrink management.
- Collaborate with your team to drive sales, enhance service, and achieve profit goals.
Requirements
To excel in this role, you should:

- Be comfortable working early hours (including before 6:15 am due to the nature of baking).
- Meet Tesco’s minimum age requirement of 18+ for this role.
