Head of Category & Customer Strategy – Tesco Account (PepsiCo UK)

Responsibilities

Core Accountabilities

  • Build and execute customer and category plans to drive distribution, primary and secondary shelf space, and sales growth
  • Lead development of trade/promotional plans, ensuring SKU prioritisation and compliance with commercial guardrails
  • Translate shopper and performance insights into execution plans that improve in-store availability, visibility, and conversion
  • Own Tesco account relationships—engage with Buying, Trade Planning, Supply Chain, and Store Operations teams
  • Champion the “Perfect Store” initiative, maximising product availability, visibility, and secondary space
  • Monitor forecasting accuracy and in-year performance, identifying risks and driving volume/fini¬ncial targets
  • Partner with Category, Supply Chain, RGM, and Marketing to align strategies and deliver high-impact initiatives
  • Continuously refine plans based on real-time performance and market dynamics
  • Contribute to Tesco’s long-term strategy, including AOP (Annual Operating Plan), range reviews, and customer strategy

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven commercial experience in FMCG or organised retail, with track record in sales, market share, and financial targets
  • Strong data analytical skills (sales, distribution, promotions) to translate insights into actionable strategy
  • Financial acumen in forecasting, P&L ownership, and performance tracking
  • Ability to influence stakeholders—Buyers, cross-functional teams—and negotiate outcomes
  • Highly proactive, results-driven with a strategic mindset
  • Clear communicator, adept at simplifying complexity and presenting data-driven recommendations
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience (e.g., working with Category, Marketing, Supply Chain, RGM)
  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced environments

Preferred (Desirable)

  • Direct experience with Tesco or UK grocery, with understanding of customer processes
