Retail Shift Manager (Shift Lead) - Tesco


About the Role

Our Shift Lead roles in Tesco offer:

  • Starting pay of £15.59 per hour, rising to £16.86 in stores within the M25.
  • Some locations may offer additional payments.
  • Guaranteed minimum of 16 hours per week, with roles from 12 hours also available.
  • Shifts scheduled within your availability window, with at least 3 weeks’ notice.
  • Access to apply regardless of whether your availability closely matches our needs.
  • Must be 18+ to apply.

Key Responsibilities

As a Shift Lead, you will:

  • Lead your team to deliver an exceptional in-store customer experience.
  • Work across all store departments, serving as the primary point of contact for operational queries.
  • Build positive, inclusive relationships to foster a supportive team dynamic.
  • Step confidently into managerial responsibilities when required, ensuring smooth store operations in the manager’s absence.
  • Make balanced, flexible decisions and adapt quickly to change.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues, providing constructive feedback and role modeling outstanding service.
  • Stay inspired to continuously improve both customer experience and community impact.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Have experience in a team lead or management position, ideally in fast-paced retail.
  • Demonstrated a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Excel at building positive, long-lasting relationships to cultivate an inclusive and supportive team.
  • Be highly effective at clear communication, ensuring the team is informed and engaged.
  • Show natural leadership by motivating and inspiring others to achieve outstanding results.
