Shift Leader – Tesco Store
Availability Window
Our store expects you to be available within these times each week:
- Monday: 06:00 – 15:00
- Tuesday: 06:00 – 15:00
- Thursday: 13:00 – 22:00
- Friday: 13:00 – 22:00
- Saturday: 08:00 – 16:00
Schedules will be provided with 3 weeks’ notice, and you’ll have flexibility if your availability aligns closely.
Note: Pay starts at £15.59/hour, with guaranteed minimum of 16 weekly hours (flexibility down to 12 hours available).
About the Role

Key Responsibilities
You’ll take ownership of:
- Frontline leadership: Managing shifts, ensuring seamless customer service and operational excellence.
- Customer focus: Listening to shoppers’ needs, resolving issues, and creating a welcoming environment.
- Team coordination: Guiding colleagues, providing feedback, and promoting a positive workplace culture.
- Store performance: Monitoring daily operations, identifying improvements, and relaying insights to managers.
- Health & safety compliance: Upholding strict protocols while setting a strong example.
Key Accountabilities
- Operational delivery: Oversee daily priorities, breaks, and duty handover—foundational to our "fuss-free" mission.
- Decision-making: Acting as the on-site authority for staff queries and operational adjustments.
- Store upkeep: Ensuring cleanliness, stocked shelves, and a neat presentation.
- Community/Loyalty events: Supporting promotions, local initiatives, or charity roles.
- Inclusivity & morale: Celebrating team-driven excellence and maintaining an engaging workplace.

Requirements
Essential
- Be 18+ years old (mandatory for early-start or warehouse roles).
- Ability to:
- Model exceptional service: Prioritising customers above all else.
- Communicate clearly: Delegating tasks, updating the team, and representing Tesco professionally.
- Lead responsibly: Stepping in for managers, making sound decisions, and handling change adaptively.
- Inspire peers: Driving high performance through motivation and positive psychology.
- Sustain progress: Continuously seeking names, saving steps, and improving operations.
Desired
- Experience in customer-facing roles or team leadership (retail, hospitality, or customer service).
- Familiarity with health & safety standards, senior support, or performance metrics tracking.
