Test and Integration Engineer – ESN

[Req ID: 56119] Job Function: Software Engineering Posting Duration: 25/06/2026 – 06/07/2026 Division: Networks Location: Bristol, UK (with frequent travel across the UK required)

Salary: Competitive, plus benefits

Why this job matters

This critical role supports the successful integration of new systems, products, services, and validation campaigns to ensure the quality of deliveries for BT/EE’s Emergency Services Network (ESN) and its customers.

About the ESN

BT and EE’s Emergency Services Network (ESN) marks a global strategic priority. ESN will be the world’s most advanced communications network for emergency services, enhancing reliability, coverage, and resilience to:

  • Replace Airwave infrastructure
  • Deliver critical voice, data, and video services for 385,000 users (police, fire, ambulance)
  • Extend 4G/5G reliability for both commercial and emergency dependencies
  • Save lives and protect millions across Britain

You’ll work in a growing on-shore team, leveraging your deep technical expertise in LTE/5G, RAN, Cloud Core, IMS, or applications to champion test and integration quality. Your rigorous end-to-end testing will align with TMMi and ISTQB standards, and you’ll advocate for quality across BT Technology and external stakeholders.

Note: This role requires National Security Vetting (SC or NPPV clearance).

What you’ll be doing

  • Plan and execute:
    • Design test cases and support test plan development, embedding automation where possible.
    • Execute end-to-end integration testing across Reference and Production environments.
  • Champion Quality Assurance:
    • Advocate for test principles and standards, engaging technical and non-technical partners.
    • Underpin evidenced decision-making based on service quality, safety, and operational risks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve:
    • Report test results/issues via formal defect management processes.
    • Collaborate with suppliers, Home Office teams, and emergency services.
  • Execute validation testing:
    • User Acceptance, Operational Acceptance, performance, failure recovery, and live validation.
  • Facilitate secure progress:
    • Communicate evidence-based test risks to challenge and inform progress, including when releases may not proceed.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
