Test and Learn Squad Lead – Strategy and Transformation, Tesco
About the Role
We're recruiting for a Test and Learn Squad Lead within the Strategy and Transformation team at Tesco.
In this role, you will lead a Rapid Test and Learn squad, focusing on continuously experimenting to identify, refine, and scale the most effective ways to engage customers and drive valuable behaviours. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team—including test owners, analysts, and channel specialists—defining, designing, launching, and measuring high-impact communication experiments at speed.
Your key responsibility is to ensure we’re constantly learning what works and what doesn’t, then turning insights into scaled activity that delivers measurable sales and profitability growth.
Operating in an agile environment, you’ll manage sprint cadences, prioritisation, and squad capacity, shaping focus areas to maximise customer and commercial impact. You’ll be accountable for delivering agreed business KPIs, including incremental sales and profit from testing and scaling initiatives, while evolving your approach based on real customer insights and performance data.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery and Performance of the Squad
- Lead end-to-end delivery of the Test and Learn agenda, from idea through to scaled execution.
- Own key performance outcomes, including:
- Number of tests run
- Percentage of winning tests
- Percentage of tests scaled
- Incremental sales and profit delivered
- Balance speed, quality, and impact—not just volume of testing.
Translating Learning into Growth
- Ensure insights from tests are clear, actionable, and reused across the business.
- Drive transitions from test-to-prove-to-scale, preventing strong ideas from stagnating.
- Build a culture of evidence-based decision making within and beyond the squad.
Shaping Priorities and Direction
- Represent Test and Learn in the Customer Planning Flow to prioritise work based on impact and capacity.
- Actively challenge and refine the backlog to focus on the highest-value opportunities.
- Partner with commercial, product, and channel teams to align testing priorities with growth goals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
