Test Bay Engineer

Blackburn/Darwen

£45’000 to £50’000 base depending on experience

Are you an experienced engineer who enjoys hands-on testing, solving technical challenges and working closely with customers?

We are looking for a Test Bay Engineer to take responsibility for the day to day operation of a proactive Test Bay. You will manage customer testing programmes from initial enquiry through to final report, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest professional standards.

Working closely with Sales, Engineering and Customers, you will plan and coordinate testing activities, prepare and operate equipment, analyse results and provide technical recommendations. You will also play a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, improving processes and delivering an outstanding customer experience.

Test Bay Engineer - Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Test Bay and prioritise customer testing programmes.
  • Coordinate testing activities with customers, Sales and Engineering teams.
  • Prepare test plans, set up, configure, operate and change over industrial process equipment.
  • Produce accurate technical reports, documenting test procedures, results and recommendations.
  • Act as the main point of contact for customers visiting the Test Bay, delivering professional demonstrations and technical support.
  • Maintain testing equipment through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Monitor Test Bay performance, maintain accurate records and manage consumables and spare parts.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and promote best practice across the Test Bay.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, equipment upgrades and operational efficiencies.

Test Bay Engineer - About You

  • You will have a mechanical or process engineering background together with experience gained within manufacturing, industrial equipment testing, technical service or process engineering.
  • A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification, or significant relevant industry experience.
  • At least five years' experience in a technical engineering environment.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills, with knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience managing projects, customer testing programmes or technical evaluations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to customers and colleagues.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office together with CRM and ERP systems.
  • A proactive approach with excellent organisation, attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
