We are looking for a passionate individual to join our team as a Test Centre Associate – Chelmsford.
About the Role
Located in Chelmsford, this role is part of our DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) programme, which provides secure assessments for prospective new drivers. We administer over 1.7 million Driving Theory Tests annually across 70+ test centres in the UK, ensuring:
- Infrastructure and processes align with DVSA standards
- Compliance with assessment criteria
- Integrity and security of theory and hazard perception tests
Your main responsibility will be invigilating exams and delivering efficient test procedures while adhering to guidelines set by Reed in Partnership and the DVSA.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing high-quality customer service to theory test candidates
- Checking ID documents and booking candidates into the system
- Ensuring security and integrity of tests during invigilation
- Supervising tests and maintaining compliance with DVSA rules
- Supporting diverse candidates in accordance with the Equality Act and our diversity and inclusion policies
- Explaining test processes clearly and addressing candidate queries
- Reviewing tests, analysing performance data, and scheduling future sessions
- Managing day-to-day test centre operations, including opening/closing procedures
- Handling potential incidents that could disrupt testing procedures

Schedule & Flexibility
This role offers flexible working patterns, including part-time or occasional shifts, with opportunities for additional hours when needed. Shifts span various times:
- Mornings: 8:30am – 1:00pm/2:00pm
- Afternoons: 12:30pm/1:00pm – 5:30pm/6:30pm
- Full days: 8:30am – 5:30pm/6:30pm
- Evenings: 4:30pm/5:00pm – 8:30pm/9:30pm
- Extended evenings: 12:00pm/1:00pm – 8:30pm/9:30pm
The Chelmsford test centre operates 3–4 days per week, with primary working days typically being Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday. Candidates should be fully flexible to accommodate shifts across all operational days, including evenings and Saturdays.
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed in this role, candidates should:
- Hold a UK driving licence (though driving may not be location-specific)
- Demonstrate significant experience in providing high-quality customer service
- Possess excellent attention to detail and accuracy, able to work under pressure or multitask efficiently
- Showgen robustness in working with diverse groups of customers
- Display strong judgement, decision-making abilities, and resilience when dealing with confrontation calmly
- Prioritise flexibility, including evenings and Saturday shifts
