Role Overview: Test & Commissioning Engineer
We’re seeking a highly motivated Test & Commissioning Engineer to join our Service team at our Great Yarmouth facility. You’ll support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of subsea and topside control systems for clients worldwide—both field-based (offshore/international) and workshop-based (testing, FAT/SRT, PMRs).
This is a travel-intensive role with opportunities to lead technical projects globally, work with cutting-edge technology, and deliver safe, reliable solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Execute installation, commissioning, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of subsea/topside control systems as per:
- Approved procedures
- Client work scopes
- Safety requirements
- Travel globally to support:
- Client commissioning activities
- Maintenance and fault-finding
- System integration testing
- Aftermarket service activities
- Independently lead complex commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support scopes
- Diagnose technical issues, combining engineering expertise with practical experience to implement solutions
- Provide technical leadership where existing procedures lack direction
- Support software-based troubleshooting (e.g., control system diagnostics), liaising with Applications Engineering for specialist support

Workshop & Technical Support
- Conduct system integration testing, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SRT (Site Received Testing), and PMR (Planned Maintenance Routine) testing
- Test subsea & topside control equipment (e.g., SCMs, SDMs, OCHs, HPUs, MCSs) during service delivery
- Assist in root cause analysis using field experience and operational insight
- Support service tooling, software calibration, and test equipment maintenance
Client & Technical Leadership
- Act as Proserv’s lead technical representative on-site, building strong client relationships through:
- Safe and competent project execution
- Clear communication
- Technical expertise
- Lead assigned work scopes, providing guidance to Service Technicians, contractors, and clients
- Offer client training on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with Project Engineers, Technical Services, and client stakeholders to ensure successful scope delivery
Documentation & Reporting
- Compile accurate, professional reports, including:
- Commissioning reports
- Fault-finding logs
- Test procedures
- Technical documentation
- Update as-built drawings and technical records post-project
- Submit timesheets/expense claims and adhere to company deadlines
- Participate in:
- Pre-mobilization briefings
- Post-job debriefs
- Lessons learned sessions
Continuous Improvement & Development
- Contribute to process enhancements in service delivery
- Capture safety, quality, and reliability improvements via lessons learned
- Mentor junior technicians, fostering skill development
- Uphold technical competence through:
- Required training
- Competency assessments
- Proactive PDP development

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Qualifications:
- HNC, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship, or equivalent in:
- Electrical
- Electronics
- Mechanical
- Instrumentation/Control Systems
- Related engineering discipline
- HNC, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship, or equivalent in:
- Experience:
- Offshore energy, oil & gas, or industrial service environments
- Commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of subsea/topside control systems
- Hands-on experience with:
- HPUs, MCSs, SCMs, OCHs, SSIVs, XTs (or similar)
- Proficiency in:
- Electrical, hydraulic, electrohydraulic, and control system principles
- Interpretation of technical schematics (electrical/hydraulic)
- Ability to independently lead commissioning/troubleshooting on-site
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and report writing
- Flexible travel readiness (international assignments on short notice)
- Compliance:
- Valid passport and driving licence
Desirable
- Certifications:
- Offshore Survival & Medical
- CompEx/Hazardous Area CompEx
- Small Bore Tubing (SBT)
- Functional Safety/SIL awareness
- Experience:
- Client training or mentoring programs
- Root cause investigations and reliability improvements
